Standard 8: Artifact Analysis

Decent Essays
This artifact was created to demonstrate my proficiency in Standard 8. It was finalized in August 2015 and is a document created after participating in the Lincolnshire PLC Conference to share mine and eight other staff members’ experiences and takeaways with the Fund for Teachers organization. Fund for Teachers granted funds for nine staff members to attend the PLC conference to continue learning about developing learning communities. The experiences we shared and the takeaways we brought back to our school to improve our PLCs was something the Funds for Teachers organization found inspiring. The feedback the provided identified how impactful this experiences was in helping our staff come together to support the learning of all students.

Description of the artifact I created this artifact for my Health, Safety, and Nutrition for Young Children class taught by Dr. Hilbert. This assignment was the Advocacy assignment. I had to pick a topic that dealt with an issue related to the health and safety of young children, and then take a stand for what ever topic I choice. For this I chose the nutritional values of meals served at school, in particular Walters Public schools. I chose this because, the eating habits that children set up at a young age will follow them for a life time .…

Since Tim Apodaca’s arrival at Highland Park as a teacher (he's also a graduate of HP) I've seen him strive every day to improve his pedagogy, curriculum, and techniques- almost to a fault. His natural, easy rapport with students combined with his unrivaled knowledge of his subject area (He was the lead mechanic for this school district for ten years, maintain 501’s fleet of vehicles!)-make him a standout in the classroom as an educator. What makes him distinguished, however, is his constant quest to improve himself as a professional. Not a day goes by that Tim doesn't stop by my room (To be fair, he is next door to me!)…

Mary Beth Stevens suggests writing supports reading by asking students to draw upon common knowledge and thinking processes (2014). In the Texas Treasures Literature curriculum students continually respond to text through writing activities. At the end of each section they record their responses by writing a personal response. These responses require critical and higher order thinking skills because students answer open-ended questions and utilize summarization, inference and interpreting meaning skills. This allows students to explore their own thoughts and make connections to the text.…

Good Afternoon Philip: Happy Friday. Here are some updates for the week. Please let me know if you would like me to elaborate on any of the bullets: • Scott, Kate and I met to review SBAC, SAT, Grade 9 PSAT, Grade 10 PSAT, and Grade 11 PSAT/NMSQT data. This data serves as the basis for intervention planning and baseline establishment of SLOs (assuming we’re allowed to use the data as part of the SLO development process, which is still TBD). • The Tech Department met and reviewed a long list of tech-related items.…

The ESO artifact I chose for standard #10 is an on-line training course for, Implementing Math for ESL Students. The videos provided information on how to teach the ESL students math. The strategies used would assure success for the ESL students. As the teacher, I am responsible for every one of my student’s learning; collaborating with the families, my colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession. I will use visuals, speak slowly and allow time for the students to answer questions.…

A new journey in my life began on August 13th, 2014 as my school principal cut the red ribbon celebrating the opening of a brand new high school. Little did I know, it would become a journey of growth and unique experiences unlike any before it, further refining and adding to my inner sculpture of identity and talent. I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

Upon reflection of the EDF5141 Health unit. I believe it has assisted me in gaining some skills which will result in helping me reach my goals as a teacher. These goals I have for myself align with two Australian Professional Teaching Standards (APST) by the AITSL. These include ‘knowing the content and how to teach it’ and ‘plan for and implement effective teaching and learning’. ‘Knowing the content and how to teach it’ is a standard from the Professional Knowledge section and talks about the knowledge you have for the subject and understanding how it should be taught which suits the learning style of the students whilst aligning with the Australian government's requirements.…
