Many African Americans are killed every day because the Stand Your Ground law allows any person to hurt a citizen they think is “suspicious” to them or their community. The person they see may not be doing any suspicious activity, but in their eyes, they are a criminal out to do more crimes. Trayvon Martin was thought to be a criminal because he had a hood on and was outside late at night. George Zimmerman used racial profiling to say that a young African American boy who was walking home was a criminal, and he killed him despite what the police told him to do. Because of Martin’s ethnicity, he was seen as a criminal, and not as an innocent bystander by Zimmerman. Police do the same racial profiling, and end up killing other young black citizens. This is due to the flawed justice system because they use the Stand Your Ground law against black people who try to exercise Their rights, but innocent black citizens get persecuted or killed every day. In addition, the Stand Your law is a dangerous for African Americans because some people think they look “suspicious” for walking home late at night. Furthermore, the stand your ground law may help citizens who are not being oppressed or who are in true danger, but for the citizens who are being oppressed, they get picked off one by one by the people who are “ standing their ground.” Even though standing your ground can save your life, many citizens can abuse their power and hurt any citizen they see as guilty of doing a crime.
