Stanalise Sheepcar: A Short Story

Improved Essays
Before I begin, I will tell you a little about me.
I am Jessica and I am undersized, you can plainly see.
Now, about where I met her.
It was almost September,
I was going on a peregrination with my parish,
Hoping to see something I might cherish.
On to the bus, I went and sat.
Then I saw a girl with a bag. I thought “I have that.”
She then noticed me smirking, came over to me
She sat and said, “Your shirt is so lovely.”
I told her my name, and said, “You are?”
She replied, “I’m Stanalise Sheepcar.”
We talked and talked the whole way there.
That we didn’t notice there was rain everywhere.
Now a description of the girl I shall tell you.
Her eyes were like jewels, that of an ice blue.
Her hair was blonde, curly, and wavy,
With ends of warm colors, which

Her stature and height was normal, for a girl as she.
And so over all Stanalise was quite pretty.

The Average Tale

This is her story, from what I remember.
She was born during the month of September.
On the day she was born, many wept and cried,
Because thousands of Americans had sadly died.
Stanalise became a sister to a sister, a few years later.
Bookey Butters was the name which Stanalise gave her.
They both grew up vegetarian, not eating meat.
Her grandmother would sneak them some, whenever they’d meet. She attended the same school for nine years.
She created a new family made up of her peers.
She still remembers the names of all of the teachers.
Stanalise also remembered playing on top of the bleachers.
She told events from each year like it was the other day.
In Kindergarten, her main objective was to color and play.
She and the other children thought it would be amusing,
To put glue on a chair, which someone was using.
But they used glue that doesn’t flow,
So the outcome was a small sorrow.
She liked first grade, it was tons of fun.
She made sweets like a cookie and a cinnamon bun.
Her teacher loved so much to cook,
So she made a class recipe

In the dramatic, but sadly realistic book Wintergirls, Laurie Halse Anderson tells the story of Lia, an anorexic teenager, after her closest friend Cassie mysteriously dies in a motel room. This engrossing book is suspenseful and breath-taking as Lia and her family take on many challenges and obstacles. More specifically, Wintergirls deals with real world problems such as children actually not eating and cutting themselves because they believe it cures their pain when they don’t even feel safe in their own bodies. This story of the challenges and responses in young teeenagers provides a frequently disturbing but important look into these real-life challenges that kids may go through. I found this story to be extremely sad and a bit disturbing,…

    Summary Of Excellent Sheep

Excellent Sheep, written by former Yale Professor William Deresiewicz, outlines the current higher education system in the United States. In this book, Deresiewicz gives critique and praise to two different types of higher education institutions: elite schools and liberal arts schools. The author analyzes how society as a whole views the higher education system and how it is (or is not) used as a time of growth in a young adult’s life. In Excellent Sheep, there is a lot of criticism revolving Ivy League schools such as Yale, Stanford, and Harvard; and how they tend to prepare their students for their certain career path. The author did a great job analyzing the different institutions within the higher education system, but he did an especially…

~Sticking to the Script~ I. Felicitous I let out a long sigh as I walked along the beach’s crowded boardwalk, alone. Johanna, my twenty-four year old sister, had pulled me here an hour earlier to have a fun night together (her words, not mine). I was honestly just as happy, if not more, to sit home and do absolutely nothing but lay across my bed eating pizza without any human interactions. I was going to save my social tolerance for her wedding in half a week, but I didn’t want to disappoint her. So I gave in to her request, only to be left a short time later.…

I placed my mug down on the coffee table I had purchased at a local flea market some months ago. It was already marked with stains and scratches from past spills and the thin coating of gloss that it once glowed with had almost faded completely. Unwashed dishes and stacks of old newspapers and magazines lived on the surface of the wooden stand. I reached for the most recent New York Times and flipped through the pages, uninterested. On the back of the last page hung a wrinkled check with smudged ink and unidentifiable streaks.…
