This may seem in contradiction with the Stamps’ characteristic of being expressive; however, those observations were with people that appeared to be within their own community of Stamps. Throughout all of the observational periods there were countless times were the students are grouped such as near the couches located on the first floor, but completely ignored everything, including each other through use technology. Near the couches, a place one may take as place for congregation and conversation, was were some the most antisocial acts happened. Every person with the exception two either passed by this area with either their focus on their phone, staring at the floor, staring momentarily out the window, or looking straight ahead in order to avoid eye contact with everyone else. In addition, these varied in age, sex, race, and gender. Not only do these instances display a disconnection among the Stamps students, but also an aspect of being unaware of others that share the Stamps experience. The drawbacks that are associated with this include limitations of understanding, as well as opting out of sources of inspiration and growth.
When witnessing the strengths and weaknesses of the Stamps culture, I realize that there is a space everywhere
Personally, I feel that I fit in the Stamps community by being myself and respecting others right to be themselves.
