Stamp Act Essay The Stamp Act of 1765 was a tax on all paper products in the British colonies. On February 17, 1675, the British Parliament decided to tax the colonies. It took 6 weeks for the colonists to learn about it (March 22, 1675). On November 1, 1765 the law went into effect. The colonists were very upset. Some of their most used products were taxed! Some of these products were: legal documents, calendars, pamphlet, contracts, diplomas, all certificates, official documents, newspapers, almanacs, dice, playing cards, and books. The price of the tax ranged from ½ a penny, to £20. A tax like this seems ridiculous considered that England didn’t even talk to the colonies at the time. The British had somewhat of good reason for this tax.
