Stakes Is High by Gloria Ladson-Billings highlights on the achievement gaps that face as she terms the new century students. Gloria is specifically referring to the racial inequities that students still face today due to “educational debts”. These educational debts are viewed as the reason for the continuing achievement gap between class, and race. Specifically historical, economic, socio-political, and moral debts that all have a part in the education achievement gap that exists. Historically there has been a gap between race with the slavery of African American and the disparities that they faced for years and are still continuing to face. Economically is the underfunding of schools in lower economic classes and predominantly African American schools. Socio-politically is the lack of voice given to African Americans and lower SES, and morally which is the continued about the ethical question of the true commitment of equity and justice for all Americans.
