Eight Stages In Erickson's Psychosocial Development

There are eight stages in Erickson 's psychosocial development. The stages, which reach across the lifespan, each come with their own set of limitations and goals. One of the final stages, in late adulthood, ego-integrity-versus-despair occurs. This stage is characterized by looking over ones own life and evaluating and coming to terms with the outcome. Throughout the aging and adulthood of my virtual life I have made a multitude of choices that would correlate with integrity. During the period know as emerging adulthood I made the choice to apply to colleges in order to continue my education as well as make the most of the time I had left before leaving home. By making these choices I took advantage of my youth. In young adulthood I worked to be able to provide myself with independence, this is important because being codependent on a parent for too long can have negative effects (Boehm, 1957). During this period I also spent multiple months searching for a job with no luck, this could be a factor that damages morale. However, due to perseverance I obtain a job in my field of interest. Looking back on this from an elderly age would be seen as a turning point in my young adulthood, as it is a turning point in my adulthood. A bought of ego despairity can set the tone for the rest of a late adults life and vice-versa with ego integrity. Looking back at my life I would say that for the most part I have accepted and come to terms with things and have achieved ego integrity. It is impossible to feel ego integrity for all events in ones life to do tragic unpredictabilities however, it is possible to accept these rough patches and move on.
