When I was 6 years old I had a great experience that changed me in a way. Before the experience I was just an average kid that did average things. Things such as going to school then going home to play with toys.
Coming into this experience I thought it wasn’t going to be fun. My parents told me to try it and I just kind of went along with it. My parents wanted me to try out for a theater show at the Springfield Muni. When I got to the tryouts I actually didn’t know I was trying out for anything. My parents just told me to listen to the people talking to me which were the directors. During the tryouts I just did what the directors told me to do and a few weeks later my parents got a call and told me I was going to be in the show.

Everything I had rehearsed was locked into my mind. Going from coloring on the stage to being thrown showed how intense the show actually was. The show was a violent and a non-kid show. The show was based around the time of the vietnam war so I had to get used to the sound of gunshots. After being thrown to the ground I would often peek my head up and look into the crowd that I could actually see now that I was near the front of the stage. Once my part was done I left the stage to get ready for my next part. I had to change clothes for the next scene which was Act Two where I practically laid in a bed the whole time.

The second act was very calm for me. All I did was lay in a bed and pretend that I was asleep. One of the nights I got so relaxed in the bed that I actually fell asleep. All I remember was waking up backstage to the voice of one of my helpers. His name was Tommy. Tommy had helped me out with nearly everything during the

One difference between stage sets for theater and settings for motion picture is that stage sets aren’t usually as detailed as settings for motion picture. Audiences can’t pick up on small details they’d be able to see in film. “The director…must generally work with fewer sets, one per act” (Giannetti 302). Stage directors are a lot more limited and must be conscientious about how their scenes will play out with the few sets they have. Whereas settings for motion pictures can have virtually any setting and the directors can add in small details because they know the audience can see them.…

About a year ago Pauline, Gloria, and I decided to be in a group together for NHD. Our overall topic was exploration, encounter, and exchange. I enjoy performing in shows, but it takes a lot of courage. Especially the musical "Shrek Jr." I was in. First of all, I had to try out to even be in the show. It was literally a room filled with people judging me. Secondly, I had a terrifying allergic reaction to strawberries right before the show.…

It was not always easy, but we were able to work through things and learn from our mistakes. Overall, I loved getting a glimpse of what stagehands and technicians do behind the scenes. Seeing the entire production come together in so little time and getting to be a part of that was an experience for which I am grateful. Just a few days before opening night, the actors were still stumbling on lines, forgetting cues, and mixing up blocking.…

I was quite confused and surprised to see the the backdrop of the stage. It was what seemed to be a large torn strip of paper. The reason why i was quite confused was due to the fact that it made me and the audience feel as if we were about to enter a gap of time. It was very fairytale like. This confirmed to the audience and me that we were going to view something very special.…

For this assignment, I watched a play called “The Insanity of Mary Girard” that was performed by a UT Theatre group, Round About Players, and was shown at the SAC black box. The play revolved around a young woman named Mary Girard who is thrown into an insane asylum by her wealthy husband, Stephen Girard. In the insane asylum, she is tormented by figments of her imagination and is told that she is not to leave the insane asylum for as long as she may live. In this particular adaptation, the cast consisted of 6 actors, 1 playing the role of Mary Girard and the other 5 doubling up on characters.…

Project 5 Reflection 1. What did I notice about how believable and relatable I was in this performance? I felt that the energy and enthusiasm I brought to the stories helped make my performance believable and relatable. I tried to include Broadway fan snippets in each story to help bring that relatability through the script and through the delivery. For example, the “not throwing away his shot” line about Lin Manual-Miranda, which is a snippet from a song from Hamilton.…

Skills Development The wide variety of mediums and structures I have displayed in each of my pieces has allowed me to develop new skills as well as hone skills I already had. The stress on basic performance strengths means that I have had the opportunity to really perfect them to a high standard while more unique styles of performance enabled me to learn new skills and incorporate them effectively where they are required. In reference to specific techniques I employed, choral speaking and synchronised gestures were a large part of my second piece as that was a spoken word poem adapted in certain ways to make it more suitable for the stage.…
