Introduction
Target Australia employs over 24000 people in 308 locations around the country (Target Australia, 2016). My employment at Target Australia began in 2013 and I’m still currently employed there as a team member. Target Australia’s first store opened in 1926 in Geelong, Victoria by George Lindsay and Alex McKenzie who pioneered discount retailing, Lindsay’s business methodology was ‘half the profit, twice the turnover’. In the workplace many different kinds of languages are used. These range from dialogue with customers, co-workers and people in places of powers, such a mangers or bosses. My role at Target includes interaction with customers, both in person, on the phone and written, interaction with co-workers and interaction with managers and regional managers. Different types of languages encompasses all of these interactions, whether its body language and facial expressions, verbal (in person) communication, phone conversations or written communication. All of these types of language share an equally important part in the workplace and how you are perceived.

Respectful language is used such as “yes ma’am” and “yes sir” to display that they are respected and are in a position of power. Body language is essential too, eye contact is always made to acknowledge the fact that you are listening and understanding the instructions given. As well as facing management with your body and stopping what you’re doing to talk to them to show respect. Although as a team member becomes more experienced the relationship between the mangers and the team member will relax and so will the language.
