Importance Of EBP

Staff Nurses’ use of research to Facilitate Evidence-Based practice (EBP) is a research paper regarding nurses and how or if they educate themselves and use evidence base practice in their work place and if there are barriers that prevent them from using it. The authors utilize a cross-sectional, descriptive online survey to examine the thoughts and behaviors of nurses from 10 hospital health care systems located in a metropolitan area in south central Texas. Although there were limitations to the study, such as sampling was small, the authors concluded that there still remains barriers and negative emotions towards using EBP. The findings indicated that limited use of EBP was largely due to lack of time, lack of resources, and lack of knowledge of evidence base practice. As a student, I understand the article and can see the benefits of knowing the importance of EBP and the barriers that prevent nurses from implementing it in practice. The article is an educational piece to help understand nurses’ thoughts and behaviors of EBP and how they have utilized or not utilized it in practice. The information is used for education and hopefully for improvement of hospital settings. The paper is fairly objective as it uses information from other papers to help develop their research question. The findings of the research is similar to those of previous papers on the subject. The opinions surface during the recommendations on ways to improve EBP in work settings. In order to separate fact from opinion, one must be critical in what is being read. Knowing that the authors did a literature review of other similar research topics to help develop their paper is aids in knowing what is fact and what is
