St. Thomas Research Paper

In today’s society, people associate religion with believing in a “higher power”. Even though most people live their life based on believing in a certain thing or living a certain way, I myself have never really committed to a religious affiliation. Even so, I have always admired the devotion some people put into their religion. Upon researching local religious congregations, the one that came to my attention was St. Thomas Moore. St. Thomas is a local catholic church in Tallahassee, Florida. I went into this mass open minded not knowing what to expect. Walking into St. Thomas, I think what grabbed my attention first was how spacious and welcoming the inside was. The church was built in somewhat of an “L” shape where it extended to the right …show more content…
There are many subdivisions of the Christian religion but Roman Catholics are predicted to be about half the total number of Christians and make the church one of the largest religions in the world. Catholics embrace that Jesus Christ was the founder of the Catholic Church. To belong to the Catholic Church you much believe the gospel of Jesus to be true. . Catholics learn about the life of Jesus through the Teachings called the gospels. The gospels are proclamation of good news about Jesus life, death and resurrection (Brodd 414). Catholics believe that God was the creator of heaven and earth and that all humankind was created in his eye. There’s a narrative in the Bible known as the Story of Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve were the first human beings created and lived in a paradise garden called Eden. The point of the story is that even though Catholics have a close relationship to God there will be time were we distance ourselves from God and go against his ways which is known as sinning. Jesus died on the crucifix for the forgiveness of sins. (Brodd 420). As a member of the Church you must also believe it to be the only body that is “one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.”( McKenzie par5) Catholics believe in the trinity, this is described in the Nicene Creed as God as one within three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ the Son of God is known to be the second person in the trinity. As Catholics you are judged upon dying based on how you lived your life. Your soul can enter one of three states: heaven, purgatory, or final damnation. Heaven is when a place that is often looked upon as a paradise it is eternal life in communion with God and is the ideal place for the majority of Catholics. Purgatory is a temporary stage where you wait until your soul has been purified, since you did not repent your sins before dying

Spanish Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 1. What happened during the services? I arrived at the church a few minutes prior to the service and I was greatly surprised by how well attended the service was. There were dozens of families in a spectrum of Sunday best and work-stained denim jeans and nearly every person wore a yellow and white vest with a red cross embroidered on the lapel. At the entrance there was a small dipping well and although there was no water in it at the moment, (most likely due to the sizeable crowd) people still placed their fingers in the dry well and crossed themselves before entering the chapel and before sitting, they would cross themselves again.…

It is evident that the era of rock and roll greats such as Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin are fading. However, the passionate fans these legends created are still hungry for fist pumping guitar solos and rhythm driving bass drums. This desire for rock in roll in the twenty-first century is being adopted by the most popular radio music format in the United States: the country music industry (Kelly & Hunt 2016). In the words of Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, “Country is the new rock ‘n’ roll. There’s no (radio) format (for rock); no one is playing it” (Ruggieri 2016).…

In 2003, Andre Thomas viciously attacked and killed his ex-wife and her two children, and was sentenced to death row. His defense argued that he was not eligible for death row because of his mental state. The court ignored the argument and passed it off, saying that they were using his illness as an excuse to “get out of” maximum punishment. As demonstrated in this case, mental illness is not given the attention it deserves when determining a sentence. Cases such as these have aroused concern how fair the criminal court is towards the mentally ill.…
