Saint Rose of Lima was born on April 20, 1586 as Isabel Flores de Oliva, and died at 31 years old on August 24, 1617. Saint Rose of Lima loved Jesus. She would not get married, she wanted to stay a virgin. Isabel was nicknamed Rose because she was beautiful and when she was little her face was seen as a rose. As pretty as she was she didn’t want to be, so she rubbed pepper on her face which caused her face to become red with blisters, she also and cut her hair. She would feast. She worked a lot of charity. Also in her home she had a place where she helped homeless, elderly, and the sick. She had many visions, which were mostly of the devil. She even wore a crown of thorns like Jesus. She would sleep on a bed of broken glass and potsherds.
