The ethnicities noticeable are African American and Hispanic. Both ethnicities are walking and on bicycles on Seventh Street and Atlantic Avenue since schools were nearby. During the survey, children were being dismissed from school and walking home or playing outside. Towards downtown Long Beach by Pine Avenue and Elm are a more of a higher socioeconomic population but consists of middle age adults. During the survey, we saw more of a Caucasian population also. In residential areas south of Atlantic Avenue, appears to be children and high school students returning home. The ethnic groups that dominated the majority of neighborhood is African American, however there were neighbors of Caucasian, and Hispanic descent in all residential areas. There are informal gatherings in the residential areas of (pick a residential street) where high school students and middle age adults would congregate on the sidewalk. There is interaction of neighbors in certain residential streets of which are Caucasian. There is evidence of homelessness residing on the sidewalk in front of an open space building located on Atlantic Ave and Tenth Street. There are no stray animals in the residential or commercial areas. We did see dogs on leashes being walked in the higher socioeconomic population area located on Pine Avenue between Third Street and Fourth Street. The north/south commercial streets are Pacific Avenue, Long Beach Boulevard, and Atlantic Avenue. The east/west commercial streets are Tenth Street, Seventh Street and Fourth Street. Coming from the east side of TCC, the houses looked similar in regards to the style and how long it has been there. When you are traveling more West towards downtown Long Beach by the local shopping plaza located on Third Street and Fourth Street, the apartments look more like condominiums or lofts. Some houses have space in front or a lawn located on Atlantic Avenue although some lawns were not maintained located on Long Beach Boulevard. Seventh Street is the busiest east/west street since people who are exiting from the 22 and are traveling west to downtown Long Beach. It was always congested with traffic especially during the survey. Seventh Street is filled with various fast food restaurants, cash-checking stores, dollar stores, laundromats, and liquor stores. The elementary schools provide a safe environment for their students specifically to learn and play. One major hospital that is near TCC is St. Mary’s Hospital, which is less than five miles away. There are at least six bus stops on each commercial street that transports people every 15 to 20 minutes. During the survey, we saw people riding bicycles or walking to their destination.
