Prophetic Jesus, Prophetic Church is a book written by Thomas Johnson. Johnson wrote this book to challenge taking the Luke-Acts Christianity into contemporary Christianity. The challenge is that the church would have an ear to hear its prophetic calling. The overall purpose of the book is to offer a scriptural foundation for the ministry of the church so that it is grounded and coherent in the ministry of Jesus. Johnson argues that Luke and Acts, presents Jesus and the apostles in terms of prophecy.…

In Acts 1:8 he quotes Jesus, ".... you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." You will be my witnesses in *Jerusalem.…

St. Sebastian definitely followed Jesus in all that he did. One way he did this was by respecting everyone even if they were different, like the Roman soldiers, and was killed for doing what was right even if it wasn’t right in other’s minds. He preached just as Jesus did and helped many men and woman convert to be Christians and follow Jesus’ example and even St. Sebastian’s example. I could follow St. Sebastian is a lot of different ways. For instance, I could stand up for what is right in my mind even if it isn’t what other might think of it.…

However, there are a number of scholars who consider the healing of the man with “abnormal swelling of his body” (vs. 2, NIV) as an important text that is critical to the story and should not be overlooked as incidental, as it is most of the time. This disease is descriptive of edema in modern times, but in ancient Greek times it was called dropsy. In this instance, some believe it is used as a metaphor for greed (Hartsock, 2013). In fact, it was a well-known metaphor commonly used in Greco-Roman literature, so it would be plausible if used in Luke’s Gospel.…

MRS 325: The relationship between the Gospel of Luke and Acts The Gospel According to Luke as well as the Acts of the Apostles collectively make up 27 percent of the information of the whole New Testament. These two works were authored by Luke, a Gentile believer (Colossians 4:10-14). Seeing that he just authored these two books, which his writings constitute over one fourth of the New Testament writings (making Luke the greatest possible author), the study of the content and message is quite important to us. (Dulle, n.d.) Acts and that Luke are companion books might be seen in many ways.…

Scholars have widely agreed that the Gospel of Luke has a special focus on the concern for the poor. This concern for the poor and marginalized first becomes obvious in the account of Jesus’ birth. In the Gospel of Matthew (2:1-12), it is the Magi, wealthy men from a distant country that come to worship Jesus, while Luke tells readers about shepherds- lowly men working in the fields coming to see the baby Jesus. Also, Luke has women, Elizabeth and Mary who as the focal point of the infancy narrative, while Matthew uses two men, Joseph and Herod the Great. The Gospel shows God being immensely concerned for those who were considered poor, and as a result was marginalized.…
