All this is determined by whether a patient needs either long term or short term care. The short stay facilities include the community, teaching and public hospitals. They are also referred to as acute cate facilities due to the fact that they provide services that help to resolve pressing problems such as heart attacks rather than the long term care hospitals which are usually rehabilitation and psychiatric ones.
