BIOGRAPHY
The life of a saint is one filled with hardships and persecution. Saints are those who go beyond the daily mass and preach the Good News to all people, even at the cost of their life.
St George was born in AD 280 in Cappadocia (an area that is now part of Turkey) and died on the 23rd of April, 303 in Palestine. He was a soldier in the Roman army who later became venerated as a Christian martyr. His parents were Christians of Greek background. His father, named Gerontius, was a Roman army official from Cappadocia and his mother Polychronia was a Christian from Lydda in the province of Syria Palestine. George lost his father when he was 14 and lost his mother a few years later.

The town’s water supply came from a pond, as large as a lake, which was blocked by the dragon. There, a dragon lived, belonging to the devil. The dragon said it would move out of the pond for an hour if they fed it two sheep every day. When sheep failed, the dragon asked for a young maiden around the age of 16 every day. The victim was chosen by drawing names out of a hat. When the time came for the town’s leader’s daughter, the leader pleaded to the villagers to let another maiden to go to the dragon to be eaten instead of his daughter, but the villagers disagreed. As the maiden waited to be eaten, she saw St George, returning gloriously after winning a battle. When he saw the maiden, he asked her why she was standing there. The maiden explained to St George everything that had happened. St George promised that he would not abandon her there to be eaten. He then fought and defeated the dragon, first praying for himself using the sign of the cross. This myth shows us just how much faith St George
