Saint Francis Xavier was born on April 7th 1506, in the Spanish kingdom Navarre at the castle of Javier. His father, Juan de Jasso, was a king’s counselor. His mother was an heiress to two houses. He was the youngest in his family (like Saint Ignatius). He and his family were Basques. When he was very young he showed ability for study. At the age of nineteen he was sent to Paris for his education. In 1530 he received his M.A. degree. While in Paris he met Saint Ignatius. Saint Ignatius, Saint Francis, and 5 others created a group to practice “Ignatius spiritual exercises.” In 1534 the group to vows of chastity in Montmartre. He traveled to Venice and was ordained to priesthood in 1537. He next traveled to Bologna to teach. A little later Saint Ignatius called the six men

Not long after the Society of Jesus was made official, Saint Francis was assigned the mission in Goa, India by the Vatican/King John III. He reached Lisbon and started his missionary work by caring for the people, working in schools, and in hospitals. In 1542 he landed in Goa. He spen 5 months there preaching, working in hospitals, teaching catechism to the kids, and evangelizing. He next traveled to Tranvancore. While he was there he resurrected people from the dead twice. Word spread of his miracle and he was sent to Southern India. He left India in 1545 and went to the western pacific. He reached Japan and the Chinese coast, and continued evangelizing
