There are so many clubs to join and services to take part in. I know opportunities just lie before me. I had the chance to shadow at Saint Francis, and in that short time I knew where I wanted to go for high school. I saw how caring the whole student body was towards the entire populace, no matter who they may have been. Everyone took part in different community services so that they could assist others. I identify greatly with the vision at Santa Clara University. Ever since I was young, I have dreamt of changing the world for the better. I hoped one day I could save the world from itself. To be the superhero that would swipe away the conflict and pain that is ever present in today’s media. While the dreams of saving the innocent from super villains has faded, the backbone and underlying foundation has not dissolved.…

Saint Francis of Assisi Francis of Assisi was born around 1181 in Assisi, Italy. In 1202, the people of Assisi came under attack from the people of Perugia, and Francis took his place with Assisi’s cavalry. The men of Perugia had greater numbers, and captured and killed many Assisians, but Francis with his expensive armour and aristocratic clothes was thought to be eligible for a ransom. This was also the time he reported to have seen visions from God. After he had been held by the Perugians for a year, his ransom was paid by his father and he was set free.…

With Veterans Memorial High School opening up towards the beginning of my sophomore year; it put multiple kids from different background together into one school. In the origination of the school, it was quite difficult to put aside the previous student body loyalties, biases, and come together to create something worth lasting which has never happened before. I saw this task at hand and I decided I wanted to take part in uniting this school. I would play a part in creating a future for the next generations that have come and yet to come. Bringing people together and creating a sense of unity in such a divided world plays off when I look back and see how hard I worked in the making of that community.…

The average high school student drives a mile or so to an institution they dread going to each day. I, on the other hand, wake up over 2 hours early to drive 15 miles to Loyola High School so that I can pursue my academic interests. On top of that my family struggles to pay tuition and the students who go there are some of the brightest individuals in California so why would I go to this place? I think that my school has prepared me with the resources to confront any situation that I am put in and the skills I have acquired have been enhanced by the competitive environment I am surrounded by each day.…

The example of Saint Francis helps me better understand service and stewardship values in various ways. I believe that Saint Francis has humble and candid beginnings as he was a normal person and enjoyed being with friends and having fun. Francis had various turning points in his life that made him realize what truly matters to him. Therefore, Francis displayed service by not caring about any judgment or qualms against the lepers and just accepting them as God would for who they are. Francis also helped me better understand stewardship because he never asked for anything and gave everything he had to others.…

Thomas’ primary purpose for writing the Two Lives of St Francis was to lay out a hierarchical model of responses to a saint. Throughout these excerpts, Thomas described the responses of people from different roles and social classes to Francis. His description of certain actions created a model for the ideal interactions with a saint. The most important parts of this model were laid out in Thomas’ descriptions of Francis’ interactions with church officials, varying social classes of laypeople, and the natural world. Thomas’ description of Francis’ interactions with church officials largely demonstrated an expectation of receptivity and support.…
