I identify greatly with the vision at Santa Clara University. Ever since I was young, I have dreamt of changing the world for the better. I hoped one day I could save the world from itself. To be the superhero that would swipe away the conflict and pain that is ever present in today’s media. While the dreams of saving the innocent from super villains has faded, the backbone and underlying foundation has not dissolved.…
Saint Francis of Assisi Francis of Assisi was born around 1181 in Assisi, Italy. In 1202, the people of Assisi came under attack from the people of Perugia, and Francis took his place with Assisi’s cavalry. The men of Perugia had greater numbers, and captured and killed many Assisians, but Francis with his expensive armour and aristocratic clothes was thought to be eligible for a ransom. This was also the time he reported to have seen visions from God. After he had been held by the Perugians for a year, his ransom was paid by his father and he was set free.…
With Veterans Memorial High School opening up towards the beginning of my sophomore year; it put multiple kids from different background together into one school. In the origination of the school, it was quite difficult to put aside the previous student body loyalties, biases, and come together to create something worth lasting which has never happened before. I saw this task at hand and I decided I wanted to take part in uniting this school. I would play a part in creating a future for the next generations that have come and yet to come. Bringing people together and creating a sense of unity in such a divided world plays off when I look back and see how hard I worked in the making of that community.…
The average high school student drives a mile or so to an institution they dread going to each day. I, on the other hand, wake up over 2 hours early to drive 15 miles to Loyola High School so that I can pursue my academic interests. On top of that my family struggles to pay tuition and the students who go there are some of the brightest individuals in California so why would I go to this place? I think that my school has prepared me with the resources to confront any situation that I am put in and the skills I have acquired have been enhanced by the competitive environment I am surrounded by each day.…
As you start your freshman year the possibility of being a senior and graduating seems far away in the distant future. The reality of it is exactly the opposite! It goes by faster than the blink of an eye. In order to make your high school experience a positive one I recommend that you get involved. Find a sport, a club or an activity that you will enjoy. Just take part, have fun and be a part of the school spirit.…
My mother suggested that I attend Urban Prep Charter Academies. I had never heard of Urban Prep, until I saw the 100% college acceptance event on television. Before learning about their college acceptances, I was interested in other selective high schools. However, I knew that Urban Prep would be the best fit for me in regards to my career goals. Many had expectations for me, but I began to form goals and dreams for myself.…
Though I am not even half way through my high school career, I feel as if I can still be a help to those who are just beginning. High school is probably the most important part of your life that you are responsible for in our teenage years, so it is important not to mess it up. There are a few concepts that I have figured out by myself that I wished someone would have told me. Those of which include never procrastinate, think about your future, learn how to manage your time, and do not settle for less than your best. My first recommendation is that you don’t procrastinate.…
The example of Saint Francis helps me better understand service and stewardship values in various ways. I believe that Saint Francis has humble and candid beginnings as he was a normal person and enjoyed being with friends and having fun. Francis had various turning points in his life that made him realize what truly matters to him. Therefore, Francis displayed service by not caring about any judgment or qualms against the lepers and just accepting them as God would for who they are. Francis also helped me better understand stewardship because he never asked for anything and gave everything he had to others.…
Thomas’ primary purpose for writing the Two Lives of St Francis was to lay out a hierarchical model of responses to a saint. Throughout these excerpts, Thomas described the responses of people from different roles and social classes to Francis. His description of certain actions created a model for the ideal interactions with a saint. The most important parts of this model were laid out in Thomas’ descriptions of Francis’ interactions with church officials, varying social classes of laypeople, and the natural world. Thomas’ description of Francis’ interactions with church officials largely demonstrated an expectation of receptivity and support.…
I have many hopes, aspirations and fears about attending high school. My hopes for highschool include making great progress in writing and forming lifelong friendships with students and teachers. However I fear that I will not be able to connect to anyone and might be overwhelmed by the amount of work I will have to do. The transition from middle school to high school is also a large change that needs to be prepared for. As of now, before high school, I aspire to hold a career in the technology field.…
1. I have attended a catholic school for all my education. I went to St. Philomena School from pre-k up to eighth grade. I’ve never taken a CCD class. 2.…
Every country’s educational system is different than the other. Also, moving from one country to another and re-adapting to a new system of education is not easy for teenagers during their senior year and this was my case in july 2014. I moved from lebanon I was sixteen, left my family and friends to live in the United States. However, American High School sounded like a dream to me when I was in Lebanon because the only idea I had about schools here in America was from the disney movie high school musical. But when I went to school my senior year all the fun things that I use to dream about as a high school student turned out to be a nightmare.…
Walking into school should have been easy considering I have done it a million times before but, today was different. Today, I was walking into Havana High School for the last time as a student. As I opened the double doors, I instantly heard the rowdy underclassmen boys, smelled the slightly nauseating food in the cafeteria, and instantly felt sick inside. Although today was a day that I had been looking forward to all year, I was nervous to see what was ahead for me.…

Everyday, thousands of high school students immerse themselves in their community and create satisfaction in helping others in need. Community service is a critical aspect of teen development. Without it, students do not realize how much it means to help others, and they do not get the full experience of working with different people. Volunteerism is required in many high schools around the United States, but not all of them. This issue is incredibly controversial because the debate is whether community service actually helps students in the long run.…
