Saint Dymphna is the Patroness of those who suffer with mental and nervous disorders.
Saint Dymphna has become increasingly popular in recent years to those who suffer from worries, fear, and anxiety. Saint Dymphna can be invoked for help with a range of mental issues, from daily stress to the more serious anxiety disorder. Saint Dymphna was born March 28,1515 in the 7th century to a royal family in Ireland. St. Dymphna's feast day is on May 15. When she was fourteen, She consecrated herself to Christ and took a vow of Chastity. Her father was a pagan and her mother was a dedicated Catholic. Saint Dymphna's father loved her mother immensely. Eventually his evil advisors whispered sinful suggestions to marry his own daughter. Dymphna’s father soon realized how much Dymphna looked like her mother and agreed to make arrangement that Dymphna should be his wife. When Dymphna heard about her father’s misguided plot, she fled her castle with a priest named Gerebran and her two trusted servants. The group sailed to Belgium, and hid in the town of Geel. Many claim that Dymphna built a hospital for the poor and sick in Geel. Dymphna has to using her wealth to built the hospital, her father was able to find her location. Damon traveled to Geel and captured them. He executed the priest that helped Dymphna and attempted to convince her to marry Damon. When Dymphna refused, Damon killed Dymphna. Dymphna was only fifteen when she died. After her father left Geel, the residents collected her body and the priest and ladied then to rest in cabe. Ther Dymphna was honored. A church was built in honor of Saint Dymphna and when pilgrims was arriving in need of treatment for mental ills, that church expanded.The sanctuary was overflowing with individuals who needed help with anxiety, worries and fears.
