St. Cecelia Research Paper

St. Cecelia was both a virgin and martyr. She lived in Italy during the second century. She is the patron saint of music, musicians, and poets. Although St. Cecelia wanted to become a nun, her parents forced her into marriage. She converted both her husband and his brother to the faith. Legend says that Cecelia was struck on the neck with a sword 3 times and lived for 3 more days. An account of her wedding says, while music was being played, Cecilia sang to the lord in her heart. In the later middle ages, she was pictured playing the organ and singing aloud. My older sister, Ashley Wurtenberger reminds me of St. Cecilia in many different ways.

In today’s society, people associate religion with believing in a “higher power”. Even though most people live their life based on believing in a certain thing or living a certain way, I myself have never really committed to a religious affiliation. Even so, I have always admired the devotion some people put into their religion. Upon researching local religious congregations, the one that came to my attention was St. Thomas Moore. St. Thomas is a local catholic church in Tallahassee, Florida.…
