This inspired me to want to join Baruch STEP Academy.

From what I witnessed last year, Baruch's STEP Academy seems to be a high-quality place to learn science and technology hands-on. Computers always inspired me since I was young. To me, science is an interesting subject where a person can discover more regarding the science behind the world, why the world is the way it is, how bodily functions work, and much more. I acknowledge the fact that almost every week, scientists discover something unique to the science world. The fact that Baruch STEP Academy provides a free and engaging summer session to support learning distinct aspects of the science and technology world is to me, prodigious, and an opportunity I love.

It seems to have a prominent SHSAT practice class to support rising 8th and 9th graders do well on the SHSAT. As a 7th grader, this opportunity to allow me to possibly attend the specialized high schools I desire is an opportunity I do not want to leave on the table. This opportunity is one I don’t want to miss, and therefore, I would love to join the Baruch STEP

My first memory at North Carolina Governor’s School West is of crying next to my parents on a bench under a giant tree. It was move-in day for the five-and-a-half-week session, and I was already sure that they would be the worst weeks of my life. I was terrified; I knew no one except two students from my high school, who were rising juniors and to whom I had never spoken before. After that stressful first day, I fell asleep unsure of how I could make it on my own in a place filled with such talented, intelligent, and unfamiliar people. A week later, I knew that Governor’s School would be one of the most treasured experiences of my entire life.…

Some of my biggest accomplishments have been achieved because of one honor I received years ago. At age 7 I was admitted into the Talented and Gifted (TAG) program. The TAG program is for unique students with an IQ over 120 who aren't being challenged by the school's typical curriculum. This program has presented some of the most delightful challenges and rewarded some of the sweetest accomplishments to my peers and I. The influence of the TAG program can be divided into three different factions: peer competition, challenges from my instructor, and diverse experiences outside of the classroom.…

A place that I find inspiring is my own high school, East Mecklenburg High School, commonly known as East Meck. When I was in elementary school, East Meck held a terrible reputation for drugs, weapons, and other things of the sort, which made me believe that East Meck was not the right place for me. Fast forward to middle school, I was accepted into the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. This was great news except for the fact that my middle school fed directly into East Meck’s IB program.…

At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.…

Margaret was easily the coolest person I’d ever met, and I’d only known her for about ten minutes. She was a NASA intern at the Ames facility, and was fielding all my questions about her field, nanotechnology. As part of the Idaho Science and Aerospace Scholars (ISAS) program, me and forty-two other rising high school seniors had completed a semester-long online class during the school year, and were now participating in a week-long Summer Academy. Talking with scientists, engineers, and interns about everything from prosthetics to Reynold’s number made me realize something very powerful. School does not accurately represent how the real world works.…

One thing that was stressed was the importance of giving back to those that come after me. Over the last three years I have done many things that help those around and in my community. One of the most recent events was during the summer during “Gospel Music Workshop of America”. The next event occurred after that was also in the summer in Brooklyn.…

With each step taken, choice made, and tear shed, I have surprised myself throughout my high school career. For example, about four years ago, I unexpectedly made the decision to join the Ecology Club in my high school. Life had just begun as a ninth-grader, and I was determined to join as many clubs and organizations as humanly possible. This dream, however, almost did not suffice because of my limited time and love for service. At first, the Ecology Club was alarming due to the requirement of twenty-five environmental service hours a semester and attendance to each activity.…

Project Citizen has been something I've heard about and have not been looking forward to for a couple years. This project is one of the many graduation requirements needed to receive my high school diploma, and also serves as a capstone of the 12 years of social studies. During project citizen students like me are able to address a problem in society by coming up with alternative policies and finding a possible way to solve it by going through different levels of government. The group I was apart of decided to tackle the problem of AP students not having the opportunity to receive the help they need to succeed, during the process of finding solutions and ways to put them into place I learned about what I can do as a citizen to change our public policy. As we decided what issue to address, our group looked for ways we could benefit the school we attend.…

Another reason I chose computer science is because computers are shaping the direction our world takes and I want to play a part in that. The idea of writing a program that helps a physicist decode the secrets of the universe or a doctor discover a cure for a serious disease holds great appeal for me. Computer science is a continually growing field and with computers becoming involved in almost every aspect of our lives it should remain so for the foreseeable future. Thanks to computer chips imbedded in everything from basketballs and shoes to computer-controlled thermostats more and more computerized data is being produced daily and to manage the acquisition, storage and use of this data will require computer scientists [1]. While sending jobs overseas will slow some aspects of computer science-related job growth overall computer science jobs are expected to continue growth through 2020 [3], [4], [5].…
