Employees of an Organization leaving the workforce in a certain period of time can be defined as Employee Turnover. A certain amount of turnover is unavoidable but high turnover of employees can ruin a company. Also companies invest heavily on training their employees to improve their performance and it incurs a high cost to the company if the trained employees leaves the organization. Therefore managing employees and minimizing employee turnover is a key factor to any Organization along with appropriate retention strategies to successfully face the fierce competition locally and globally.

The Group owes its strength to the skilled and dedicated workforce and the adherence to controlled processes certified by the multiple compliance and ethics certifications possessed by the Group. Now it is a well-known Private Limited Company in Sri Lanka. All products are exported to global markets such as the US, UK & many more. ABC Group of Companies is composed with four main companies which produces different type of garments for the foreign market. They are;
 ABC Clothing (Pvt) Ltd
 ABC Leisurewear (Pvt) Ltd
 ABC Casualwear (Pvt) Ltd
 ABC Sportswear (Pvt) Ltd Today the factory use high quality machines and technology to manufacture its products. And the Company products are available under various popular brand names in the International market. More than 3000 employees are employed in this company and 1500 out of them are Machine Operators. This research was carried out at ABC Sportswear (Pvt) Ltd, where there are 1000 employees employed and 600 out of them are Machine Operators.

Given the fact that the Apparel industry is the largest contributor to the exchange revenue of the country it is important to retain the trained employees for a longer period of time to get the maximum return for the investments done on training employees. Researches/Case studies of this nature has not been previously done to find out the proper reasons for high turnover. Also secondary data that were provided by the company states that currently the turnover rate of Machine Operators at ABC Sportswear is approximately 7.1%. But the company’s standard annual turnover rate is 5%. It is approximately 43 Machine Operators out of total 600 Machine Operators. That’s almost one and a half of a production line out of total 21 production lines which operates. Therefore there is a necessity to find out the reasons for high turnover of Machine Operators at this company. Identifying the factors that causes high turnover of machine operators and recommend appropriate strategies in ABC sportswear (Pvt) Ltd is the main objectives of this research.

1.4 PRACTICAL RELEVANCE OF THE STUDY
Employee turnover is a major issue that many Organizations in the modern context are facing or likely to face. Identifying factors that causes high employee turnover will help Organizations to develop suitable retention strategies and address issues that causes turnover with more understanding
