"Excellence is going far beyond what anyone thought you were capable of. Excellence is having the highest standards and always striving for them. Excellence is paying attention to the smallest detail. Excellence is caring."- Ron Southern. This quote is coming directly from one of the initial founders of- what’s now become an internationally recognized equestrian center- Spruce Meadows. Located initially on the outskirts of Calgary, this facility has developed substantially over the past thirty-nine years. Opening its gates to the public in 1976, this previous feed lot, had been transformed into a world class riding arena. Over time the growth of the city became so tremendous, that it is now located in between two of Calgary’s largest, most

Wind-Wolf was an Indian 5 year old in kindergarten. His teacher assumed that he was a slow learner because Wing-Wolf was not learning what was being taught in class at the same rate as his classmates. The teacher tried to use the same methods of teaching he used with the rest of the class which was not the way Wind-Wolf was taught. The teacher should have tried different methods of teaching such as, verbal, logical, spatial, kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, or naturalist intelligence to find a better way to teach Wind-Wolf. Wind-Wolf’s father mentioned that Wind-Wolf learned to count with objects.…

I agree with Krakauer that Christopher McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with people easily, but he did seem some-what incompetent, even though he managed to survive for over one hundred days in the wild. Energy independency has now become an international subject, spreading with radical pioneers who seek independence from the local power grid. Henk Rogers reiterates, through his campaign to run his house on solar electricity and amicable quest to ensure Hawaii's electrical independency by 2045, that energy independency is accomplished when an individual or even a community can successfully supply their own energy needs without assistance from the power grid. Through his tenacious aspiration to encourage residents to go off grid, Rogers has inspired countless residents to become energy independent. In doing so, he has prioritized it as his ‘number one’ objective, insistent to reduce carbon emission from combustible fuels. The key factor that lead him to partake of the clean energy movement was perturbing fact that Hawaii’s hallmark coral reefs are perishing in the increasingly acidic ocean.…

I don’t believe that any town should just give up and die. Smaller towns tend to have less to work with but that’s no excuse for allowing their city to fall into ruins. Community leaders and members have to realize that growth doesn’t just happen magically, it must be worked for. Community leaders have to research and find brokers and economic developers to help their town to grow and flourish. This allows those brokers and developers to grow their assets and the community to grow in ways they could of never imagined.…

In this argument, the arguers concludes that residents living in the Leevile town (L town) have relaxed pace of life because of their fewer sick days than Masonton city (C city), and lower rate of diagnosis of stress-related illness. At first glance, the argument appears to be convincing, however, further reflection reveals that it suffers from at least three logic flaws. Firstly, the number of days of sick leave taken by individuals does not necessarily indicate their health status. In order to justify the argument, the arguer should provide explanations like L town’s workers will not still at work if they feel uncomfortable, or the only reason of asking for sick leave is they are indeed ill.…

Anything worthwhile takes sacrifice. Lives are in jeopardy as the winter gets even more harsh on us, the soldiers of the American Continental Army. Valley Forge is a very cold, scary, place during this winter of 1776, not including the shortage of supplies. Smallpox is becoming a mass sickness at the camp and even the doctor is sick. We are all very weak and barely have enough food each day, if any.…

As people become more aware of their ethnic background, many things we take as normal life begin to be rather offensive. One of the biggest issues for native americans is the football team for Washington DC, the Redskins. Originally the Boston Braves, in 1933 they changed their name to the Washington Redskins despite it’s head coach ,‘Lone Star’ Dietz, being native american as well of some of the players. In a city that prides itself on being an environmental example to the world — from its throngs of bike commuters to its antisprawl development rules — the moss study results roared, producing an upheaval of surprise, anger and fear. Residents shouted or wept in public meetings last month, raging at state officials, who released the results and then found themselves blamed for not knowing what the factories were putting up their smokestacks. On Tuesday, the director of Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality, Dick Pederson, resigned abruptly, saying he had health concerns that needed immediate care. After the moss studies were released, local officials, who have said they are cautiously optimistic that public health impacts from the glass plants will in the end be minimal, raced in to take soil samples and set up air monitors. But residents near the plants were also cautioned last month to forgo, at least for now, even the spring rites of backyard gardening, until the…

Hi John, I was also disturbed by the machine deciding who lived and who died. I understand birthrate quotas and caps for a society that has to contend with the aftermath of any disaster. Quotas and caps may cause morality and ethical issues (as we have witnessed in China), but the survival of a society should be put first. The destruction of the earth was definitely in that realm of thinking. The committee had to make the difficult decision to limit the birthrate to when a person died.…

In the articles “Three Cheers for the Nanny State,” “Ban the Ban!,” and “Soda’s a Problem but…”, all three authors present their arguments with facts, opinions, and counterclaims. However, one article presents itself better than the rest. I believe that the article “Soda’s a Problem, but...” was the most convincing article. Sarah Conly- the author who wrote “Three Cheers for the Nanny State”- argues that the soda restriction is a good idea because people would be stopped from making foolish decisions that they’ll pretty definitely regret.…
