With the lack of self interest it was torturous to try to push through. Also, timing played a role. At that point of the semester, I was already mentally exhausted like many others. So, the combination of these factors made it hard for…
Our Lady of the Lake College is a Catholic institution that was created in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, who firmly believed that all of creation spoke volumes of God’s love for us. St. Francis was raised in a fairly wealthy family, and it was not until he was captured at battle for two years, that he decided to embark on the glorious journey of knowing Jesus Christ. He began preaching to word of God, and embraced others that were not of his kind. Students who attend Our Lady of the Lake College should be of the same example to others throughout their academic careers. As Franciscans, We live by five core values that are service, reverence and love for all of life, joyfulness of spirit, humility, and justice.…
As a student currently attending my fifth semester at CSULB, I have completed various activities that have helped my development as a Dietetics student and aspiring Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Some of these activities include being a member of Hermanas Unidas de Long Beach (HaU), CSULB Student Dietetic Association (SDA), & Students for Sustainable Health (SSH), as well as being part of the Coca-Cola Scholars, and lastly being a student intern at the CSULB Center for Latino Community Health. As a member of HaU, SDA, and SSH, I have obtained academic, community, and social skills. Academically, I have learned how to communicate efficiently with my professors, know the resources available for support on campus, be organized in order…
As the season of fall approaches here at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, I have reached the middle of my fall semester as a freshmen college student. Midterms are approaching and I am pulling my hair out due to the sleepless nights and long hours of studying for midterms. There are some students are planning activities for Halloween while I on the other hand am preparing my study guide for my Microeconomic midterm. The closest to a break I would have from school would be Thanksgiving break, and during the break I would return home and begin working for my family. All the stress I am feeling about school could be due to my unorganized school schedule and responsibility of renting an apartment.…
It was the first day of my second year in Tomball ISD. I walked into my second period, Texas History, with a Mrs. Brough. At first glance, Mrs. Brough seemed to be a little too excited and the state of her desk with several coffee mugs seemed suspicious. It was in this unorganized classroom and with this giddy teacher that I found my love of history. Mrs. Brough was a short and stout woman who never stopped smiling.…
My first semester at Texas A&M made me realize how quickly time transgresses. As a student that came in with an abundant amount of hours to the university, I feel that each day I spend in class is invaluable. With the credit hours I came in with, I am set to graduate in the Spring of 2018. Knowing that my time on campus is much shorter than other students, I find each day a valuable experience and memory. Academically, I feel at ease since I came in with much experience in rigorous courses and have always been a disciplined student.…
My heart drops when I look at this essay, knowing my undergraduate academic performance was average at best yet I excelled academically during my postbaccalaureate program. I try my best to give details surrounding my fluctuating academics at Springfield College. In high school, I enrolled in two semesters of AP Spanish senior year and earned a C in both semesters. Freshman year of college my course load was more ambitious than I found myself able to handle. Attempting to balance 18 credits along with intercollegiate swimming, quickly became an overwhelming endeavor.…
The Final Days (A Literary Analysis on Three Favorite Texts from First Semester) The amount of knowledge that I’ve gained from only being in Mr. McGee’s class for one semester quickly adds up to be more than I’ve learned in any other class in my three of a half years of high school. This semester has taught me more about myself than anything. There are three very important texts from the text book that have left a mark on me deep enough that I will maybe remember them through my first year of college.…
Instead, my grades have suffered because I have been trying to juggle between school, work, being a single mother, and family issues. Nursing was a new world to me and I learned spring semester how much dedication it took in order to be successful in this program. When I entered spring semester, I was working 40 hours a week overnight…
Wow, what a semester it has been. It has had its ups, it has had its downs, but overall it was three months full of wonderful memories and personal growth. I am very proud of the work I put in this semester and knock on wood, this will most likely be my highest GPA semester thus far. Of all the courses I am taking this semester I have not put in as much consistent work for any of them as I have this class. This is not to say I have not worked hard in my other courses, but in no other course did I have the necessary drive to work on something for hours on end for several days in a row.…
Semester Transition Reflection Guidelines: Reflection should be one to two pages. Leave the current page settings. Thinking back on semester 1, what are the two most important things you learned? Talk about those.…
I took two classes for the summer of 2016, but the Interpersonal Communication class had me worried the most. I had a training with the army, and that required me to absence from school for two weeks. Unlike my other class, I didn’t have a chance to work ahead of the class with the instructor for the two weeks that I would be missing. Therefore, I was worried that I wouldn’t catch up with my classmates and end up failing the class. However, Ms. Anna was generous and extended the assignment due date for me; she even gave me an extra-credit assignment to replace the credits that I missed during my two weeks in training.…
Both My First Free Summer and My Furthest-Back Person deal with family, but they do so in different ways. They both have families that are foreigners who came to America, but they come from different countries. In My First Free Summer, Julia, is from the Dominican Republic, where as in My Furthest Back Person, Alex, is from Gambia. Alex and Julia’s family both move to the United States of America. Though, Julia moved to America by choice, whereas Alex’s family was captured and sold to America.…
I did succeed in making my grades but by the last months of the semester I realize that the stress that came with procrastination wasn’t worth in ad I started working on time management. In high school the words time management are repeated but never really explains. I grew up hating the simple idea of time management, but I have since learned that is means balance. It is easy to think of staying in and doing nothing but studies, but true time management is the balancing the responsibilities you must complete and the things you want to do. This realization has taught me that I can have a “fun” college experience without forgetting the reason I am at a university.…
I took the VIA personality survey and my results were as followed. My top five strengths are Love, Kindness, Fairness, Gratitude, Spirituality, and Appreciation of Beauty. My five weaknesses included Prudence, Humor, Self-Regulation, Forgiveness, and Love of Learning. I believe these strengths and weakness make me who I am, but they will also help me achieve and succeed in my future vocation. With my degree in Psychology and Public Health I want to work with children who are diagnosed with a mental disorder, specifically autism.…
