In 1964, civil right organizations that included the Congress id Racial Equality and Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee organized a voter registration drive. This drive was known at the Mississippi Summer Project, or better known as Freedom Summer. It was aimed toward dramatically increasing voter registration in Mississippi. Freedom Summer consisted of black Mississippians and more that 1000 out-of-state mostly white volunteers, who faced constant abuse and harassment from all of Mississippi’s white population. The Ku Klux Klan, police, and state and local authorities carried out a series of violent attacks.…
Spring Breakers 35.7144° N, 83.5114° W. Elevation 3,300 feet (1,000 m). Total population 3,944. Yes, Gatlinburg, Tennessee was to be our spring break destination. I would be near the birthplace of Dolly Parton and was a temporary home of, actor, Jim Bakker. When I was told about the potential trip to the beautiful Smoky Mountains, I was beyond thrilled.…
It has been proved time and time again, that students are happier when they get the opportunity of having a summer break. Without a summer break students don't perform the best of their ability. The school calendar should not run year-round because students perform better, and extra costs are avoided, however students would have more learning opportunities. All year long I look forward to summer. It's a time to be with friends, have no homework, and be carefree.…
Children look forward to the the summer break because they do not have to spend eight hours of their day in school. However, sitting in the house can quickly become boring. There are many ways that children can stay entertained during the summer. Games That Will Keep Your Children Entertained During The Summer Months Lawn Twister…
Memoir My Grandma’s name was Joann Hassel she was a woman who loved her family and she touched every one’s life that she met. Grandma loved to bake, make and paint ceramics, watch her grandkids play sports, and tell stories. She used to tell stories all the time and to every one she knew and I’m going to tell you her final story.…
Winter Break was pretty fun. My brother came home again from North Carolina. He came from like the 21st of December all the way until the 3rd of January. Half the break was really boring and the other half was pretty exciting. The boring part consisted of days where I just slept all day or played video games.…
By participating in the summer institute will benefit me as a student by helping me learn more about journalism. I feel that the summer institute will let me know how it feels to be on a collage campus and what to expect when I actually go to collage. The summer institute will let me meet new people from everywhere around the world that have the same interest as me. The summer institute will benefit me by giving me different tools to help me in my life and my career. I fell that the summer institute is not just to help you get more tools to make your writing better but also to teach you about your future and papare you for collage.…
My Break Well let’s start off with the immense amount of junk food I had. I mean I thought I would get fat. It was the same thing with my sleep schedule. I stayed up late almost every night and slept in late. I am still trying to get back to my normal sleep schedule.…
Spring break this year definitely wasn’t my favorite! It wasn’t terrible because I didn’t have to go to school or practice, but that didn’t really help the situation my family was in. It was mostly just a really boring break! Over spring break my whole family came down with a nasty virus!…
I spent many hours after school sitting in the sparsely active cafeteria, while she served the students with a smile on her face. My Grandma was a kind, selfless woman who would never let you go hungry. She instilled in me how important it is to take care of the people around you, so that when you are in need, they will take care of you. It’s cliche, I know, but the world truly did lose a great human being. After her passing, My Mimi, who is my father’s grandmother, took me in and supplied me everything I needed to succeed in life.…
I went somewhere even colder than Kansas for springbreak. I went to Colorful Colorado. I also went to Springfield, Missouri. For the whole week i was sick. I had the flu.…
When my grandfather passed away in 2008, everything changed. However, it wasn’t the actual passing of my grandpa that impacted me the most; it was the influence it had on my grandmother. My grandfather had Parkinson’s disease, and his last few years were very difficult. It got to the point where my grandmother was unable to care for him in their home, so he stayed in a nursing home for a while. When his days became more and more numbered, we decided to bring him home so he could be in a nice, familiar environment when he did pass.…
My grandma has always been a big part of my life, from accompanying my mother on the journey of my adoption to always supporting me. I have always thought highly of my grandma, she continuously puts others before herself and is always helping out in the community some way. With just being the kind, loving person she is, she has majorly impacted my life. My grandma has been through a lot of tough times throughout her life.…
My Grandma Margie always had a way of influencing me with her kindness for other people. Even though she was battling cancer she still found it in her to treat others with respect, even when they sometimes didn’t deserve it. When my sisters and I were younger, every summer we would go stay with my Grandma Margie for at least a week. She would say, “load up the truck” and we would all pile into the old, baby blue, chevy truck, and go check on the cows down the road a couple of miles. We would do everything with her from the chores around the farm, to going to the beach, or just simply riding around the four wheeler in the fields with her.…
My grandmother who resided with us, was like a second mom to me and my siblings, and made it easier to live without my father. However, my grandmother was addicted to alcohol and had a mental health history. My grandmother had two nervous break downs before, and attempted suicide via overdose, which resulted in lung surgery and inpatient hospitalization: prior to my birth. When my mother would work double shifts, I would stay up with my grandma because I was scared for her. Most of the time she would keep me up, because of the rage that she felt after drinking.…
