Spousal Violence Effect

Spousal violence occurs in many families, but a minority of victims have gone to the police. There are many types of abuses, and in Canada, there are more female victims than male victims to endure the violences. Economic abuse is more serious than the other abuses since all the finances are controlled by one person who has gained the most. Furthermore, the victims of verbal abuse are usually the one who always stays at home, the tensions from the environments produce verbal abuse. Isolation is an abuse that seems invisible to others, considering the victims are isolated from the society. This means the pressures from workplace, house fee, parents, etc, these make people have stresses, anger and frustration. Thus, this may affect people to yell at their spouses in order to relieve stresses. As the report by Department of Justice Canada has shown that this violence is called verbal abuse, which people are using words to harm their families, this seems like a low severity abuse, but it is not. As a man feels angry due to unsatisfied by the co-workers, he is not willing to listen anything from his spouse. In that man’s mind, the only way to stop her from talking is to yell at her. Afterward, withholding will be his next step, which the man keeps his thoughts, feelings, opinions, hopes and dreams to himself. At the mean time, his wife has become a victim, since exchange of information is important between husbands and wives. According to the spousal abuse article, every victim wants to leave the spouse, however, due to the lack of resources, finances and housing, these are the most important causes. There are more other reasons, which include guilt, fear, shame, social acceptance, etc. Even the victim is brave to leave the spouse, no one can help him/her for the financial problems. Therefore, there should be more shelters that are given to the victims, who are suffering from the domestic abuse. This can reduce the amount of victims who have not gone to the police yet. Also, in the shelters, there should have many job opportunities for them thus to create their new lives.
