Spotted Owl

The spotted owl lives in western North America and lives in old growth forest. The appearance of the owl is similar to the barred owl but differences include cross shaped marking on the underparts and belly. The owl nests in tree holes, rock crevices or other bird predators nests and can usually be found between 39-179 feet high. The owl usually lays 2-3 eggs but in some occasions can lay four. The owls size as an adult is about 17 inches in height, a wingspan of 45 inches and a weight of just 600g. The spotted owl's eggs are a about 55mm long and are white with a grainy , almost sandpaper texture.

Why is it Endangered?

The spotted owl has become endangered due to severe loss of habitat due to over logging and land development.
