The movie “Spotlight” and its characters demonstrate the skills necessary for a journalist to produce a good story. The movie is on the the Spotlight team ( Michael Rezendes, Robby Robins, Sacha Pfeiffer, Marty Baron) from the Boston Globe that uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation by priest and the Catholic Archdiocese attempt to cover it up. Although the journalist were pursuing a huge and difficult story, they uncovered the story to the public and took a huge step for all of journalism. In order to do this they mastered the ability to work as a team, communicate efficiently with their interviewees and research the issue to its core.
The team’s ability to work diligently together is a huge factor in the success of uncovering the story. Their strong investment in the story is what held the team together. They all believed that they had to expose the wrong-doings of the Catholic Church system in Boston to bring awareness of the child molestation issue to the public. The team’s ability to make decisions together despite there being debate is vital in creating the story. This is shown in the movie when Rezendous discovers the

In order to expose the truth, the victims had to speak out and give direct quotes. The journalist did not only interview them, they spoke to them as people.Their ability to do that allowed the interviewees to feel comfortable and give their story on a sensitive issue.This is shown in the movie when Rezendous interviewed Garabedian, a victim molested by a priest. In the beginning of the interview he is hesitant and does not want to reveal his name. However, Rezendous encouraged him to speak more by showing interest causing the victim to reveal his experience and even allowed Rezendous to use his name in the article.
