To begin with, my struggle to read began in the first grade where I found myself relocating to a new school and in a strange environment. The year started smoothly, but then further down the road, I found myself falling behind in my reading class. Initially, I felt isolated from the other students, resulting in my grades deteriorating to the point of failure. Consequently, my principal called a meeting with my parents to discuss the problem and viable solutions. After a great amount of discussion, he explained that it was not uncommon for new students to struggle and recommended enrolling me in a special education class for my reading course. Concerned about my well-being, my parents made the decision to enroll me in the class and encouraged me to remain positive throughout my stay there. During the second and third grades, our class utilized several required materials in class, such as Hooked on Phonics, flash cards, and pop-up dinosaur books. Consequently, this enhanced my reading, vocabulary, and writing skills and allowed me to dive into higher works of literature. In addition to this, my parents bought me a plethora of classics such as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Moby Dick. Also, some of my favorite books to read were Star Wars and Star Trek novels.
