Sports Talk Radio Analysis

The sports talk radio program I decided to listen to was ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption from 2/26/16. This program features hosts Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon, both well-known figures in the sports world who have been hosting PTI since 2001. I have listened and watched PTI before, and one of the reasons it is so great is because they condense a lot of sports talk into a short amount of time. On weekdays, it airs on ESPN at 5:30 pm and only runs for a half an hour. It is a perfect time to watch, as you can listen to some funny sports debate in the time right before dinner, and it is only half an hour instead of a full hour. The tone of the show is an entertaining one. The hosts have known each other for a long time, so they have a built-up

As NBC was preparing to launch its new show they first realized they needed a name, and most importantly a host. NBC has decided to select Tony Dungy as their new host for their new sports talk show that focuses on the ins and outs of sports primarily focusing on basketball and football. The show will strive to be much like Real Sports and 60 minutes which have HBO and Showtime have found great success in. The reason for selecting Tony Dungy as the new host for the show is because he is a Super Bowl- winning head coach. Dungy is also recognized for who he is as a person, Sports Illustrated has said that he is “Football’s high priest, the oracle who passes judgment on all moral questions.”…

In its times, “Brian’s Song” was the most iconic made-for-TV movie. ABC strategically placed its premier, utilizing the concept of “flow” to cross-over their normal, stereotypical male Monday Night Football audience, towards the broad audience they were striving for their prime-time football games. Doing this allowed Monday Night Football to become a “consensual space”, thanks to the high viewing rates of the connecting film. These ideas worked with the themes of the movie to construct a positive vision towards the NFL. Raymond Williams’ concept of flow is demonstrated through the way ABC strategically premiered the movie “Brian’s Song”.…

Tom Baker Hour I had the opportunity to be able to attend the Tom Baker Hour with a special guest of Jack Jones. Right off the bat, I was comfortable with the topic of conversation whenever they introduced the candidates for the elevator pitch contest. In the classroom we went over what exactly an elevator pitch is and how helpful it is to have one in the future when networking. I really enjoyed watching a variety of people present their elevator pitches, some included CofC students and some were local businesses from the Charleston area.…

Around this time of the year, I, like many Americans do, dedicate my Sundays to football. For me, it’s borderline unhealthy, sitting on my couch from 1pm to 7pm, glued to watching grown men in uniform wearing pads running into each other (NFL RedZone is great for this). Following the end of the normal games before NBC’s Sunday Night Football Game of the Week: which featured a huge game involving the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, I noticed I had some time to spare, so I decided to channel surf until then. Upon looking through what I considered pointless programs (Competitive Drone Racing, seriously?), my eyes stumbled upon something that was entitled “Football”.…

When I entered the education landscape, I was foreign to the ideas and the nature of those that saw themselves as something more than just a student. I never thought that those students that sat behind the deteriorating desks could educate themselves. Ergo, as I transferred from middle school to high school, I began to discover those students that were seen as insignificant if I wanted to succeed within what was previously taught to me as the “real world”. Yet, it was through those encounters with those strange and unique individuals where I was exposed to something pure. I remember the first time I was ever exposed to music as an educational structure for me to discover myself in.…

I have no idea what CM Punk had to go through in WWE, even after hearing Punk himself talk about his horrible experiences on Colt Cabana’s Podcast. However, I can understand what it’s like to hold a grudge with a former employer that treat you horribly. CM Punk can’t seem to let go of his grudge against WWE. On the other hand, in my opinion, CM Punk tends to go off on anybody who looks at him the wrong way. On CM Punk`s interview with Fox Sports, he referred to WWE wrestler’s as “indentured servants”…
