Sports Film: Concussion Imagine participating in an activity that is not only love by you, but my millions around the world. This sport captures the attention of the young and the old, and is played by the same. This game dominates the weeknight and weekend television during its season. So what is this game? Football, America’s favorite pastime. But what many beloved spectators didn’t know about the game, the movie Concussion brought to the silver screen in 2015. Omalu life was threatened if he did not stop his research. His wife who was played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw was followed by an unknown vehicle, which this stressful and fearful event left the views to conclude caused the death of her unborn child. Dr. Omalu also felt that because of the color of his skin caused a lot of push back from the National Inistitue of Health (NIH). In an interview with TIME, the question was asked “Do you think your race played a significant role in the attacks? Dr. Omalu answered, “Yes. Let me tell you, the establishment was really upset with me because I was in my 30s when I did this, I was a foreigner, and I’m an African-American. It open the minds of parents who are entertaining the thought of allowing their son to play this sport or continue to play, and gives them the information needed to make a decision that could save their life in the future. Playing sports is not a bad activity, but the impact of the physical contact could very well leave the participator, with less that they bargain for. Dr. Omalu believes that 90 percent of those who play this sport on the professional level have been effected with some type of neurological issues. The best part of this movie is when Dr. Omalu theory is recognized and accepted by the NFL and his co-workers. The movie show how a person can be harassed for their beliefs almost to the point where they feel as if “what is the use of fighting”. And in the end rewarded, acknowledge and accepted into their profession.
