When a child gets injured it is really scary. When it occurs in an organized sport that is supposed to be a safety haven for an enjoyable activity then it can be a tragedy. If the proper equipment is utilized then the risk of injuries decreases and safety is improved. Children or teen-agers that get injured while playing an organized sport may benefit from rules and regulations that are designed to protect players. Many of the injuries that can occur are very dangerous, sometimes even life-threatening, and can possibly change a person’s life forever. In the past, sports had almost no rules for injured players. There were rules to follow the games, but not to protect players. Many sports did not have safe conditions. Medical science was not aware of the dangerous effects of concussions or repeated injuries to the same parts of the body. As time passed coaches and administrators learned about the health of youth playing sports. There are now many more rules and regulations in sports that prevent injuries and they have a lot more reliable equipment for protection. Even in non-contact sports the safety is increased. Most are passionate about their sport. If an athlete does get hurt he or she wants to get healed as fast as possible, but most players also recognize the importance of getting professional help. This will help them return more quickly. With one year over five hundred thousand youth players go to doctors for injuries directly related to sports and thirty thousand get hospitalized for their injuries(“Sports-Related Injuries Among High School Athletes--United States..”). Lawmakers, sports authorities, and coaches need to do everything that they can do to protect our sports players and keep them safe. The children should not have to worry about getting injured. “High school athletes account for an estimated 2 million injuries” (“Sports-Related Injuries Among High School Athletes--United States…”). Players are getting injured way too early in his or her lifetime and many of these injuries are affecting the players forever.
