Hamer, Weiler, and Stamatkis (2014) performed a longitudinal study involving watching sports on TV and it’s relation to physical activity and obesity. While this study focused in on adults, the results indicated that watching sports on TV has no effect on physical activity and obesity. As the study excluded children and adolescents, it would be interesting to see if they are affected by sports stations. Nonetheless it would be also be interesting to see if health commercials and series that involve loss of weight such as, The Biggest Loser play a role in physical activity and obesity for adult viewers. Many people do not have cable but they do posses a Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc.account. All these companies stream movies and series from television. Some people may only have cable or another form of streaming. Though, some people may have both. Many households have cable as well as Netflix and other streaming accounts. According to “TIME” magazine in 2014 the average person watches 2 hours of Netflix a day. There is not much research presented on how much the average person watches of Hulu and Amazon Prime. An average child watches around 3 hours of TV a day and an average adult watches around 5 hours of TV; though could they also be adding the extra two hours of Netlfix.
