Super Bowl XLIX was the most-watched television program in U.S. history with over 114 million viewers, The World Cup is the most widely viewed and followed sporting event in the world, and the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight was the most-watched “pay per view” event of all time. As you can see sports are one of the few things that people all around the world can communicate with without having any sort of barrier. So when the debate comes up about whether or not sports should be regulated, it's almost natural to ask why? Why should sports need more regulations when football players walk on the field with pounds of gear on, or boxers have referees, or people are thoroughly informed of the harm that sports do? Why should our energy be focused on making sports safe so that they can be encouraged for positive influences? Better health? Commendable effects?

Sports may be a very entertaining thing to watch, but it that necessarily a good thing? Is finding pleasure in the “sight of two men or even women...trying

The amount of sports injuries per year are inhuman. With sports regulations we could possibly cut that number in half. “Repeated hits to the head... maybe killing former players.” Source B states, and its true. Logically, if someone is constantly hitting something over and over again it will eventually wear down and possibly break. Your brain is very fragile and to put it through so much can cause long term side effects that can shorten your life expectancy. The biggest focus is not on the amount of deaths in sports, because that statistic is nothing compared to the amount of players who have been injured in the sport. “Chronic brain damage is the most worrying thing about boxing.” Source A states, as opposed to deaths in boxing. Living with such severe injuries that can affect your day to day life may cause you to rethink whether or not you want to commit yourself to
