Rough Draft America differs from other countries not only in what measurement system is used, but also in what sports the US plays. The rest of the world has played and excelled in soccer and left the US in the dust. The trade off is that no one can match the US in basketball or football. America does not consider soccer as important as football and basketball, there are many reasons why. The US despises soccer because America hates low scoring games, the US is not the best in the world, and America absolutely detests tie games. One of the reasons the US has more interest in basketball and football is because America detests low scoring games. The US is accustomed to games that

Football may have one or two tie games in five years while soccer has tie games what seems like every other day. Soccer is a sport in which it is no big deal to have a tie game. However, in football and basketball, tie games are almost unheard of. “In its (America’s) first game, the US team achieved a tie with the heavily favored England” (Mandelbaum n.p.). Key word in that quote, achieved, it was an accomplishment to tie in a soccer game while in football it's a rare day when two teams go head to head for four quarters and 3 overtime and have no one win. Although this tie game was beneficial to the US, the American public will not approve of tie games on a regular basis. “As long as American athletes don't play, the American team will not have a chance to win the World Cup” (Mandelbaum n.p.). If the American youth is not attracted to soccer as they are to other sports, America will be in steady pursuit of NFL championships and Olympic Basketball wins quite a bit more than a soccer game. Tie games are a tremendous reason that causes the US to disprove and dislike soccer and they will gravitate to other sports as people have in the past. Soccer has a lot of rules and regulations the US is not used to. In the end, the soccer rules will remain the same as they have for years and the US will not warm up to soccer as much as people have adored other American

We as a nation play and watch our sports; I feel it is going to continue that way because we as Americans really enjoy our sports, and this is what I believe makes me an American. Sports have been entertainment to most Americans; some Americans actually get involved and actually play the sport they enjoy the most. During World War 2 and the Great Depression all sports stopped but baseball and boxing continued.…

Global Effects The Super Bowl utter dominance within the U.S. fails to translate onto the international stage. It is behind a number of sports, such as soccer, rugby, even cricket. It’s American-centric base excludes the rest of the world, as other countries are much more focused on sports where their own people are competing. Even when referring to the sport, one must say “American Football”, rather than just football, as the rest of the world uses that term for soccer.…

Summary: The role of football in the United States culture, has been drastically changing over the years. Public opinion is now leaning more towards negative sentiments with trends like failing attendance at games, the decline in youth football participation, and issues surrounding head injuries suffered by players. Relevance and Applicability: These three issues that Weintraub has mentioned, not only have severe implications for the NFL, but also for the practice of public relations. If the NFL wants to continue to be "America's favorite sport and television attraction", things must change, and a major chunk of that change comes from the public relations involved (Weintraub, 2014, pg. 19). As Guth and Marsh mention, "good public relations involves two way communication between an organization and the publics important to its success".…

Americas the Greatest Event Professional football has had a huge impact on America. Since its first professional game in the fall of 1892, the country would never be the same. This can be seen on the very first expense sheet shown from that game that this was going to be something special. That there was going to be a lot of money involved in this game. Which was going to have a major influence on the people, economy and the players itself; this is why the first professional football game is the most important because it has changed the ways of American economics, fighting to lower childhood obesity, and the game teaches the importance of values needed for life.…

Rooney defined a player being from a certain state based on the high school attended. He collected data from major college and university varsity basketball player rosters from 1961 to 1967. Today’s sports fan will argue that football is Americas past time. For years baseball has been Americas favorite past time since the sport started in the late eighteen hundreds. One of the main reasons baseball has become second to football is because a lot of superstars in baseball have lied about taking or knowing any more involved with steroids. Superstars in baseball that hold the all-time records are linked to steroids like Barry Bonds, which holds the all-time records for the most home runs, Roger Clemons, one of the Best pitchers of all time , and Alex Rodriguez who is one of the fastest players to ever reach over five hundred home runs. So far football has kept a better image than baseball by enforcing stricter rules and informing players about things they must do such as, change the duration of the season, make stiffer rules consequences for people who break rules, and change the way the playoff system is structured by permitting more teams to play in the playoffs.…

Since its conception, the beautiful game of soccer has been a sport played all over the world, played by many ages and admired by all. In Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa, soccer is as big of a deal, if not more, than American football is in the United States. While soccer has not been in the United States for that long, the American people do not elevate it to the same status as they do baseball, basketball, or football. In the rest of the world, soccer is considered to be their pastime and they watch it at all times of the year and have a great love and respect for the game that cannot be compared to a love for another sport.…
