The assigned reading material for this week of Shooting sports management is titled "Custom Websites for Gunsmiths". The article is authored by Chris Groote, and originally appeared in the March 2015 issue of American Gunsmith magazine.

To begin his article, Mr. Groote explains that in today's world it is necessary to have a functional website. In this article, he will be presenting pointers on setting up a website for conducting business. He touches base on what the term website refers to. It is the virtual location connected on the internet that contains (and maintains) several pages of information. Having a website definitely has benefits, as he explains in the article. It promotes your business, is open around the clock, generate sales, and also showcase some of your previous work. The last one is especially important I believe, as it shows competence, and skill. Mr. Groote states to obtain a professional, with a proven track of success. For this task you definitely would not want a novice performing the work. Sure, you may save a little money, but think of the money your business can be out of due to having an inoperative website. He suggests interviewing the website designers, as well as looking at their previous work. You would want to avoid "cookie cutter" websites, in which a template is used. He stresses avoiding HTML format, as it will cost you for changes. The next step would be setting up a domain name. This is the address on the internet that will showcase your business' website. Also consider what you want the website to do. Whether it just be an information page, or if you can conduct business, or sell items. By listing your services, and prices, it will cut down on phone calls to your
