There are several accomplishments that I consider important. One is the successful completion of military service. The two years I served in the 2nd Infantry Division was an unparalleled experience that cultivated me with duty, respect, courage, integrity, and discipline but most importantly, the determination to pursue my goals assiduously. The other one is completing my Capstone project in which I interned at the EPA region 10 to investigate the corporate social responsibility in the sports industry and what motivates sports teams to adopt sustainability. Subsequently, I worked as a sustainability intern at the University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics Department. I learned that the sports industry has greater potential than any other industries in terms of social influence considering millions of loyal fans that actively follow sports teams. Comprehensive policies that require strong initiatives towards achieving sustainability could revolutionize the way in which the industry operates and influence other industries. When you feel as passionate as I do for a sport you prefer to be playing the game as often as possible. This in most cases means playing a select or club season in the off season of high school. Little would you know that playing the same sport in two different environments could possibly change your view on the sport entirely. For me volleyball is the game I feel a passionate love for, that is why I chose to play club and high school volleyball. Club volleyball's environment and competitiveness make a player a better athlete than high school, making club volleyball better.…

Youth athletics has played a massive role in shaping my character. Whether it be learning the value of community or stress management, these activities have attributed or further developed more characteristics present in me than all other experiences I have combined. Before joining the Plantation Athletic League, I had a very limited understanding of what a community is or is supposed to be. As I progressed through different sports with peers, I had formed something completely new to me: a bond, friendship. It became apparent to me that life is not just about you or how successful you are at any particular activity or event, but rather how we can become successful.…

I wasn’t about to let this stereotype define me, so I strove to invalidate it. Since I joined volleyball two years after most of my peers, I was put on the “B-team” throughout junior high.…

In my college career which has been around 4 years now, these first two weeks are the first of any trimester or semester that instead of being enrolled in classes, I’m enrolled in an internship. This is definitely a change from the norm but at the same time it is exciting as well. It gives me the opportunity to use or observe some of the material that I have learned so far in my classes at Johnson & Wales in a real scenario. This internship allows me as well to gain much needed additional experience in the sports and athletics industry and will give me a more holistic view of the athletic program. It will allow me to see many different roles and see from various projects what parts of athletics I like or dislike since I am overall still open for the future to a variety of roles in the sports industry…

From my conversation with her I could see how proud she was of discipline, strong work ethic, and positive attitude. It seems that she felt as if academic and psychological resources are ample for student athletes and that the support she has found here at Wright State has made her undergraduate degree more enjoyable. Despite these positive feelings about student athletes, she expressed that she was always busy, is board with team drama, has had injuries, and is constantly exhausted.…
