Should school get rid of sport? In Pro-Sport articles, the author always puts up a picture of children or teenagers winning something and they all are smiling from cheek to cheek. What is doesn't show is the other half of the calculation - the losers. More than 20 nations have better high school graduation rate. Americans are distracted by sports, and it has gone too far. Advocates of school not getting rid of sports claim sports are an American beloved tradition. However, sports are distraction, too dangerous and too much money is spent on sports. They allege that “providing exercise lessons in perseverance, school spirit and just plain fun” (O’shei 12). However, the prominence of sports has gone to extremes. For example in the article, “New bleachers cost half a million dollars” (Ripley 11). This emblematized that school can surplus so much money on sports, but isn't being school lunches or new books every year. Instead of paying that much money for bleachers people rarely seat on. Why don’t school pay that much money for lunch, new books, and new material for school? The school lunches are terrible, the books they give to students are really old. Parents should bring their own seat, instead for the school to pay that much money for just sports. This is not the super ball or the world ball. For instance “When teacher- coaches travel for games, schools have to hire substitutes” (Ripley 11). This means, school has to pay another teacher, while the teacher is at away games. Also the teacher they have to plan something while they're away. A lot of work! The school have to pay the teacher and the substitute. Teachers have to make a plane, when they are gone. Most of the time the substitutes don’t teach. Why should teachers spend time making planes, when they already have a lot of work for themselves?
