Why were black people segregated from baseball? Today many of the legends and greats we think of were African Americans, and it’s crazy to think they were excluded from the MLB just sixty years ago. They were segregated from anything you can think of at the time, and sports weren’t excluded. No matter if you were an Olympian athlete or a baseball all star chances are you’d end up with a dirty low pay job. So rather than give up the sport they loved and performed well at, they created the Negro Leagues.…

Consultation is an integral part of a comprehensive school counseling program and of school counseling services. Consulting is defined by the ASCA (2005) as an indirect service rendered by a school counselor that may empower the school to enhance the services offered to students. Some examples of consulting services offered are system support, guidance curriculum, and responsive services. As a future school counselor I will be expected to provide all of these consulting services for my students, and develop ways to incorporate them into my school counseling program.…

For a long time high schools have had sports teams and art programs and they started out with equal funding but over the years sports teams started receiving more funding while the arts clubs received less. Why do they give more funding to the sports teams, it might be that if you walk into a classroom there will likely be a lot of students talking about sports or athletes and only a few who are talking about a musical or art festival so, the school board might think that only a few students like the arts programs and everyone else like sports but, that's not true. There is a lot of pressure for boys to join the sports team because their father of brother want them to be just like them, so most boys will join the team and not actively participate so they are just wasting the schools money when it could be going to the art programs.…

Before starting on this artifact, I was not comfortable with the counseling standards. They seemed obscure and subjective at best. I had no idea that counselors have definitive guidelines with substantial training on how to accommodate each concept to each situation. It is quite daunting to imagine that there is a well-established standard of procedures and protocols that are flexible and successful in addressing each individual need. By compiling the information for this comprehensive notebook, I have a whole new appreciation for the many resources that are available to me that will allow a successful beginning to my new adventure as a school counselor.…

As a school counselor, I would support my students by challenging in unjust policies and practices within the school and implement workshops/seminars monthly that promotes mental health awareness and disability awareness. One of the main issues with mental health needs are that they go undiagnosed and or treated and school-based or class room interventions that supports awareness are helpful for advancement of schools (Auger, 2016). I would provide support to students who have physical and mental disabilities through individual counseling. I would implement and advisory council, which would include the parents, staff, administrators, stakeholders, and various groups in the community. The advisory council would assist the counselors with recommendations about the counseling program, funding and resources geared towards students with disabilities, and advocate and engage in public relations for the school counseling program (ASCA, 2012).…
