Sports Captain Speech

Buzzz! The sound of the siren goes off. It is halftime. Jogging off the court, I follow my team to the locker room, all of us sweaty, out of breath, and completely dejected. What happen to the Baron pride at the beginning the game? It seems that even the coaches have given up on us as they stomp out the locker room in frustration. We all sit in a room overflowing with silence and tension. I stand and say, “Ladies, why are we letting a few bad plays and missed shots completely discourage us? We can do this! All we have to do is work as hard as we can for the next two quarters and leave it all out on the court.” Unfortunately, the Barons did not win that game, but we did prevent our opponents from scoring more points. “The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority” (Blanchard) As captain of the varsity basketball team, I have shown the coaches all my hard work and determination throughout the past three years. They want me to share my skills and work ethic to the underclassmen before I graduate. Captain is an ambitious responsibility but it is an honor and I do it with pride. …show more content…
This past summer I had the opportunity to attend the USF Community Filmmaking program for a week. I had to write, direct, and produce an original film. This was such an educational and entertaining experience. I had never worked with so many unique and creative individuals. I open-mindedly considered all my cast and crew’s creative alternatives to the script, while directing in order to help my film reach its full potential. At the end of the program, my film won , “Best Screenplay”, but not without the help of my cast and crew. USF taught me that a leader is not always a single person making all the decisions, but an innovative group

Throughout the course of this semester, taking TCF 201 has taught me about, even though I come to the conclusion that going in this direction of actually being a filmmaker is not for me, in the end. However, it did teach me a great deal. I never knew how much work could go into producing and directing your own work, I mean I had a general idea, but nothing to this magnitude of the amount of work that it takes, plus the hours of sleep that I have lost took a toll on me as well. But it was all worth it.…

There is a mindset you need to have when you're tagging up on third during a fly ball. You know, when the games tied and coach is telling you to get home. You watch until the ball is caught and you take off. You have to keep your head towards home plate. If you look back for one second, if you doubt that you're going to make it home for one second, that outfielder is going to throw you down and you will be out.…

    Coach Carter Sociology

Coach Carter, this movie changed my life and opened my eyes into the macro perspective in how the film displays positive and negative changes in social and technological changes. I will convey how Coach Carter transformed many uneducated, poor, unpassionate high school basketball losers into not only winners, but passionate educated men of society. Coach Carter takes over as head basketball coach at Richmond high school, where he graduated and was the all-time leading scorer and assist maker. The players of Richmond are unpassionate, lazy, vulgar and undisciplined. The Richmond Oilers just finished the season with the worst record in school history and decisions to possible shut down the program were in question.…

I used to be a shy and quiet girl but since joining the summer camp I started to socialize and have friends. After two months of learning basketball, I began to like it. Then, I started playing basketball in high school as part of my school’s team and I’ve been playing ever since. It started out as just an activity, and then became a hobby that’s something fun to do but later on, I found that I really like basketball.…
