“The number of participants in high school sports increased for the 25th consecutive year in 2013-14 with a record total of almost 7.8 million, according to the annual High School Athletics Participation Survey conducted by the National Federation of State High School Associations” (“High School Participation Increases for 25th Consecutive Year”). Sports for youth and high school students play a huge role in promoting active and healthy lifestyles for any age. Eliminating contact sports to protect students’ safety should not be the schools responsibility because athletes increase academic skills, increases personal skills, and students choose to play the school sport. School sports benefit high school students to increase personal skills. Sports are very beneficial to a young athlete. Sports construct children to have enormous potential. Athletics teach a wide variety of lessons… some good, some bad and some tough to handle but all of these lessons are valuable. The lessons learned through sports will benefit one as an adult (“Preface to ‘Do Sports Benefit Children?”). “It is a big step when becoming an adult to know proper skills, to get along with people and be able to problem solve.
