Sport Of Texting Essay

The Sport of Texting Heart beating rapidly, drops of sweat making their way down the sides of my face, where was it? I heard it vibrate. Why can’t I find it? Flipping my bed over and destroying my room was not as important at the time. I had one goal on my mind: to find my stupid phone. Was it her? Did she text me? I need to answer her now! It was fall of junior year in High School; I was captain of the football team and was trying to win over the prettiest cheerleader on our squad, Rachel, pretty cliché story right? That right there has been the plot to hundreds of movies out there and for the most part each story is exactly the same. However this story shows what others leave out, how texting can either make or break that storybook type …show more content…
In the middle of writing out the answer my phone explodes “See?” she said “ Doesn’t that distract you?” Alexa text bombed me. “ Rapid texting is just annoying,” she lectured. At this point I stopped arguing and started listening. I clearly saw now how I was smothering her and coming off as needy and all I wanted to do was fix it. Alexa handed me a handout she made up on how to resolve my problem. Basically it said to ignore Rachel and distance myself. I was always bugging her, like Alexa pointed out, and I needed to make her realize how much she wants to be with me. That was the goal of this plan so I abided. I met back up with Alexa and of course got the “I told you so” speech. At this point I was sure the situation was resolved, of course I was wrong. “Now part two starts,” she explained while handing me another sheet of paper. “ She clearly wants me around again Alexa,” I said “ what else is there to do?” “ You need to apply what you have learned,” she declared “and I need to

In the essay ‘Take Me out of Their Ball Game’ by Maria Guhde Keri, the author illustrates a prevalent situation in any child's life, “Did you ever walk into a room where kids are playing, say, a board game? They're animated, excited, totally focused on what they're doing. When you appear, they stiffen, grow quiet, and appear confused. An adult is watching, and suddenly the game and rules are changed-maybe even ruined.” In this scenario the presence of an authority figure sours the mood.…

The short stories, “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien and “The Fireman’s Wife” by Richard Bausch have resonated with me after reading them this semester. I am able to draw similarities from what I’ve read and associate them with the story. Doing so made what I read capture my full attention and transport me into the story. Also, I discovered and tackled flaws in my own character in the process. I found both of these short stories to have been thought provoking and an interesting read as well.…
