“A discussion on the theme of life in, Spoon River Anthology”
There are many reasons and themes in spoon river. The 3 poems I picked had many life events that would go hand in hand in what happens in life of present day. My favorite 3 was Constance Hately, Kindsey Keene, and Benjamine Lantier. All of these poems were about important life events. Some were very good others were very poor. In all of these poems they prove what life is like and how beautiful but also go hard it can be. In every single one they give a statement about what they should have done differently or what they would have liked to do.
First off Constance Hately was chosen because she enjoyed life and she always lived it to the fullest. She never just let life pass her bye she took charge and made sure that life was all that it should be. She did have a few things that held her down. She was taking care of her siblings since her folks had gone. They never were a burden to her she felt grateful that she had the opportunity to make sure they did great things with their lives. This one was chosen because it was very different from all the other poems written. Everything that has been wrote in this poem is about war. He says how he feels and what the war does to him but also how much he misses home and what he wishes to do for the people back where he comes from. He also explains what the war is like not just mentally but also physically and emotionally. Imagining what soldiers see in war is harsh because even in present time if they make it out they don’t want to be alive. THis is due to so much death around them. He speaks of how he always use to be in charge but in the war that time has passed as he no longer has the will to fight to be in
