As Michael Jordan would say, “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.” Corporate sponsorships are often found throughout many schools. However, the question becomes, how are these sponsorships beneficial? The use of sponsorships in schools creates an atmosphere of teamwork, as seen in the ability to expedite growth for both the school and business, the increased exposure and popularity between schools and companies, and the ability to grow programs, illustrating that growth and success can be accomplished with teamwork. Although many argue that sponsorships in high schools lead to increased pressure and create a binding contract that can take away the focus from the love of the game, ultimately they prove to be lucrative and aid with growth, leading to larger, overall success. A sponsorship is, by definition, when a business agrees to provide money and paraphernalia to a team or school, in exchange for advertisement. Gatorade being one of the largest sponsors for the National Football League and many other sports organizations. Gatorade is a drink designed for athletes, in order to replenish necessary electrolytes to continue playing the game and prevent dehydration. Often you will see the players holding towels, water bottles, and even a several gallon cooler with the Gatorade logo on it. Since football is such a widely viewed sport across the nation, this allows for an abundance of exposure for the company and holds great potential for increased consumerism due to the influence of the players using the brand. However, the business isn’t the only side that sees benefits.
