Len Wein once said, “A true friend is someone who is there for you when he'd rather be anywhere else.” A True friendship is where 2 people have a special bond with each other and are loyal, kind, respectful, and love one another. SpongeBob and Patrick from SpongeBob Squarepants have all the good qualities you need in order to have a true friendship. They remain loyal to one another by sticking by each other’s side no matter the problem. In the SpongeBob Squarepants movie SpongeBob had to retrieve a crown for King Neptune or Mr. Krabs would get killed. Patrick decided to help SpongeBob by assisting him on the journey. The two boys are in a small gang called the Greasers. The Greasers treat everyone like family, making Johnny and Ponyboy very close. Johnny and Ponyboy are the youngest of gang so they have to try to be by each other’s side at all times. Throughout the book, the two are always in some sort of conflict. On page 49, Johnny and Ponyboy are being jumped by the Socs, a rival gang. The Socs started to drown Ponyboy in a nearby fountain. Without thinking of the consequences, Johnny took out a switchblade and killed a Soc. Johnny and Ponyboy were very scared at the moment but they stuck by each other’s side and remained calm. They went to an old church in Windrixville and Johnny made sure Pony was safe and didn’t get hurt. Johnny wanted Ponyboy not to get in trouble so he tried to change his hair style and color so he would not be recognized by anyone. Later in the book, the church caught fire by a cigarette butt that was not put out. Ponyboy and Johnny saw that there were kids in the church so they went inside to go and save them. While they were inside, the church was collapsing so Johnny made Ponyboy get out first so he wouldn’t get hurt. By doing so, Johnny didn’t have enough time to get out and broke his back and died.
