What makes a good TV show is the characters having depth. One of the deadly sins is being lazy which is being a sloth. Patrick Star would represent sloth because he shows excessive laziness or the failure to act. He lies under a rock for the day and does not do anything. Squidward is illustrated in the TV show as wrath because he has anger and hatred towards his life and most of the time SpongeBob. Gary, SpongeBob’s pet snail, is portrayed as gluttony. SpongeBob over feeds him, but the one time he forgets to he runs away. Sandy is from the Lone Star State and she is proud of it. Sandy shows excessive pride to be from Texas, however, too much pride is a sin. Plankton’s whole goal in life is to steal the secret formula. For instance, envy means, “painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage” (What Are The Seven Deadly Sins 1). Plankton envies the secret formula. Mr. Krabs represents greed because of his desire for money. Kids watch the show and see Mr. Krabs caring for nothing but money and it makes them want to be a better person. Lastly, SpongeBob lust for everyone is excessive. He shows his over eagerness to do well and help others. SpongeBob tries his hardest to be nice to Squidward and all of the others around him. Most of the time kids learn “by watching and imitating others, young children learn how to interact socially.” (“Child Development and Early Learning” 1). Kids watch SpongeBob and they will say “I never want to be like Plankton because he steals.” The show teaches young children right from wrong.
