"Space: The final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before." In “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier,” the Enterprise is taken over by Spock's deluded half-brother Sybok, who believes that the moment of enlightenment will come after crossing the so-called Great Barrier at the center of our Milky Way galaxy. The ship is closely pursued by a Klingon Bird of Prey, which is at first hesitant to continue pursuit across the Great Barrier. However, after traveling through thick clouds of interstellar gas and intense electrical discharges, both ships emerge at the center of the galaxy, unscathed. Rather than the super massive black hole suggested by modern theorists, they discover a new planet. …show more content…
Since it is certainly designed to aid a party in need, it teaches us empathy, compassion, and humility. A great portion of my volunteer work was been done though scouting, however, my mother has taken me to do charitable work for others since my kindergarten years. I have brought joy by playing piano to elderly people warehoused in retirement homes, I have read for countless hours to people who could no longer see, I have prepared ethnic cuisine for an elderly German lady as she was homesick and realized she would never see her country of origin again, and I have delivered meals to disabled veterans living in the most deplorable conditions one could imagine. I realize these activities have nothing to do with engineering at all; however, they make us gain a deeper appreciation for the fortunes of some while providing a realization of the misfortunes of others. As my uncle Tony, an engineer from Luxembourg, always proclaimed: “Do not envy the few people who are ahead of you, but rather take a look at the masses behind you and appreciate what you do

Community service is not as bad as some people make it out to be. I myself had an internal groan when I heard that community service was required and would be set as a grade. I had only known volunteerism as doing a dull boring task with no discernible reward. But after experiencing it for myself I found it quite the contrary. Volunteering is a way to meet new people and witness a group working toward a greater cause.…

It was also helpful when applying to internships because you can use examples from your volunteer experience during your interview. For example, I was able to say in my interview that I can think on the spot because during my time at Riverfront the staff occasionally wouldn’t show up for programs so I would have to think of an art and craft as soon as I arrived. Next, the volunteer experience has made me a more well-rounded person and has helped me understand what population I enjoy working with. Everyone has a niche and through volunteering, you can learn what population you most connect with. Third, I have become more comfortable and open working with people with disabilities.…

Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…

We spent a whole day at my school doing simple tasks such as garden cleaning, moving old furniture, covering graffiti, repainting old walls and stairwells. In the end, volunteering had a huge impact not only on me but also the community around me. It enabled me to connect with my community and make my school a better place. I realized that helping out with the simplest and smallest tasks can make a drastic difference in society. Many people believe that there is nothing they can do to help in their communities, but that is simply not the case. I think the best part about community service is that you get to see your few minutes, hours, or days make a change for the better. Star Trek: The Next Generation. I was introduced to the series by a friend, and it reeled me in immediately. It was the adventures of Jean-Luc Picard and his team that led me to wake up at four in the morning, rushing outside to catch a glimpse of the falling meteors with my telescope. If only there would have been more people volunteering, then so much more people could have been helped. And if more people can be help, then the suffering on earth can be ease. The big problem is that everyone is so busy with their personal life that they forget about the importance of helping others. A positive aspect I saw was that those who were already volunteering were really dedicated and kind hearted. I believe they are making a big impact on every person they touched and made it a task to spread their kindness.…
