A spiritual autobiography can be hard for a person to write, but can be a very therapeutic process that is used by professionals. The process to write a spiritual autobiography can be done in many different ways, which include the question and answer method, making a list of major events that have happened in a person’s life or starting with the desired result then working backwards (Randolph, 2016). For those in the older population the easiest methods are going to be the question and answer method or making a list of events. Both of which I will outline how they are done in the next section. The answers are then put together to form the core of the person’s spiritual autobiography, leaving the writer to only have to link the answers together to form the spiritual autobiography (Randolph, 2016). The best way to start a spiritual autobiography is to simply tell the story, for example start with the story of your parent’s religious background and spiritual approaches (Spiritual Autobiography, 2009). The move into how they influenced your spiritual journey as you were growing up and the messages that you were given that influenced your decision making process (Spiritual Autobiography, 2009). In this journey to write your spiritual autobiography include events that may have tested your faith or that may have strengthened your faith throughout your life. These events may not always be happy events, but they may have helped you grow closer to God and how spiritually you lived your life. When writing the spiritual autobiography if a journal has been kept it can help you to go back and remember points in your life where you may have been questioning your faith or relationship with God. It was at that time that I become extremely interested in what God could do in my life and wanted to attend as may activities as possible to help me grow. I started going to youth group in middle school along with bible studies, which lead me to meet my youth group leader that was more than willing to answer any questions I might have. He was the one that taught me how to talk to God when I had an issue that I needed to work through and didn’t quite know how to address it. He helped me through tough times, when my dad went through a period of coming home from work with his friends and would get drunk in our house. My youth group leader became my escape he would come and pick me up with the other kids in youth group to go on outings and would tell us all there is no problem too big for God to handle and we just had to put our faith in him. After three years of being our youth group leader he moved on to another church, but that did not stop us from remembering how he influenced not only our life decisions and our walk with God.
