Spirit Day Experience

Decent Essays
The event I attended was Spirit Day at Poinciana campus on October 19th from twelve to two pm. That being said, I chose this event for the reason that I felt this occasion represents the identity and community shared by all the members of our institution. Not only that, but student involvement is important when representing your school and when improving your school environment. Thus, going to such event may have a significant impact on my college experience. This type of occurrence has the effect of making students feel more united, and unity only makes us stronger as individuals, which is why attending was important.

I live in Staten Island, and this borough can be considered more infamous than the other boroughs. Having the most substance abusers and crime rate, Staten Island has often been looked down upon. The St George Day fair really showed that there's more to Staten Island than drug users and crime. Seeing the smiling faces of local residents of various backgrounds was a wonderful experience. Although the table I worked at was small, I met a large variety of children.…

I enjoyed the Freshman Cultural Event. Although trying to get everyone together to take a picture was pretty difficult, when we were done, we had a good time. When we got to the cafeteria for our dinner, I was shocked. We had scalloped potatoes, steamed vegetables, and a slice of meat. Let’s not forget the cheesecake.…

From taking communion, having a candle lighting service, and ending with fireworks this event has meant so much to me. First, I love this event because the location is beautiful from the surrounding nature; this makes me feel god’s presence every day. Second, the fire pit with s'mores and sleeping under the stars; I can’t get this experience at home, but I can come here and have this every night. Also, having a chance to hangout with friends everyday is a good perk to going to the event. The overall point of why I go is on the night of the candle lighting service.…

For the first chapter, I believe the clarification of how to define mysticism was central to the argument. Carefully defining the term is important because making distinctions helps the reader understand what mysticism truly is. By focusing on what is observed, one gets a better understanding because it removes bias from interpreting concepts. Also, mystical experience is shaped by what the mystic brings to the experience, therefore acknowledging the environment and physical effects helps categorize and define what a mystical experience is. Overall, by focusing on observations one is able to understand and organize what a mystical experience is because it allows one to avoid bias and see the true commonalties experiences…

I attended A Night in Africa Event on April 1st. It was a great opportunity to experience the elements of the various African cultures. I feel like in America we focus on the American black experience, but often forget that we have immigrants straight from Africa who are very in touch with that unique culture. It was very cool to see so many different students representing their country of origin. It was a great opportunity to learn about cultures I knew very little about, and to see UND students perform their talents.…

Selecting an Event Over the course of the semester, our class was told to participate in a community event different from our own culture. It was actually very hard deciding where I should attend, for the fact; I knew very little of what was available in the area. When it came to figuring out what type of event I wanted to attend I knew that I wanted it to be somewhere that I knew that I could learn from to help with my future practice in social work. I eventually decided on attending a Coffee, Cake and True Islam event hosted at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Center.…
