Spinel Ferrites Research Paper

Decent Essays
The use of ferrites as visible light photocatalysts for the degradation of contaminants in water has gained much interest in recent years. The studied contaminants include both organic and inorganic compounds, specific dyes, and bacteria. The high adsorptive capacity and VLA photocatalytic property makes spinel ferrites highly suitable in the field of water treatment. Ferrites have been applied for the removal of organic and inorganic contaminants from the environment. A p-type CaFe2O4, has been shown to be effective in the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to form methanol as the major product [50]. The photo-dehydrogenation of H2S is possible using ZnFe2O4 as a photocatalyst and this process produces H2, provides the potential benefits of

The most common oxidizing agent in bleaches from our experiment is sodium hypochlorite. The bleach that was used in this experiment was made by bubbling chlorine into the hydroxide solution. Some of the chlorine is converted to the hypochlorite ion but there is also some that turns from gas to aqueous. The chemical equation for this processes is as follows: 〖Cl〗_2(g)…

    Uncatalyzed Reaction Lab

The concentration of the reactants was varied such that the order of the reaction could be determined, and the temperature was also changed to determine the activation energy of the reaction. The rate law was found to be rate = k[KI]1[H2O2]1, and the activation energy was calculated to be 53.9 kJ/mol. This activation energy was 21.1 kJ/mol less than that of the uncatalyzed reaction, showing that the catalyst was effective at decreasing the activation energy, and increasing the rate of the reaction. One possible cause of error is the inconsistency of reactions, the reactants must collide in the correct orientation to react, so there is always a possibility for some small variation. When calculating the activation energy, warmer water was used to increase the temperature of the reactants; however, because the surroundings were still room temperature, the temperature may not have been consistent throughout the reaction, leading to an error in the observed rate, and consequently an error in the activation energy.…

In the second part of the lab I made verdigris. CuSO₄*5H₂O, water, and a magnetic stir bar were placed inside a beaker and put on a hot plate. Once the CuSO₄*5H₂O has dissolved and the solution is still stirring, ammonia was added in droplets until the mixture became a deep blue color. Once this was stirred I filtered it until most of the liquid was gone.…

The researchers compared both biologically produced manganese oxides and chemically produced manganese oxides for the oxidation of diclofenac. Because biologically produced manganese oxides are known to have high specific surface areas and high catalytic reactivity, this substance offers higher rates of oxidation for diclofenac when compared to chemically produced manganese oxides.² If biologically produced manganese oxides prove to completely eliminate diclofenac from the water supply, the researchers will have found a solution to rid diclofenac from the water supply. Materials. Biological manganese oxides were synthesized using an axenic culture of Pseudomonas putida MnB6 in a growth medium, which was supplemented with 〖MnCl〗_2.² A diclofenac…

4 Feb. 2016. This study states that the recycling of carbon dioxide (CO2) cannot completely reduce the large concentrations of CO2 in the thermosphere, but it is indeed a functional process to produce modern chemicals. However, the process to hydrogenate CO2 with good selectivity and long term usage may require energy at high cost. Yuehui and Beller suggest that the intervention of more active and stable catalysts can lower the costs and increase the efficiency of the conversion of CO2 to methanol (CH3OH).…

The Hill reaction proves that water is the primary electron donator to the artificial electron acceptor in the presence of light and chloroplasts. This reaction can vary in absorbance based on the different variables used to modify it. Here, presence of inhibitors, light intensity and wavelengths were all variables used to tests the effects on the Hill reaction. The inhibitors tested were ammonia and DCMU. The effects of light intensity were varied by changing the distance from the light source to the cuvette solution.…

Developer Total Monkery has released their new ID@Xbox title, MagNets: Fully Charged, which is an overhauled port of the original game that came out on Steam last year. I never got a chance to play the original myself, nor have I indulged in any arcade-style collectathon games in quite a long time, so I was hoping this would be an interesting change of pace for me. Sadly, this wouldn’t be all that interesting of an experience for me. MagNets is a pretty simple game in both its gameplay and story; you play as Faraday, a small android-like park ranger at Polarity Park who must fight against these block-shaped robots (aptly named Bloxbots) who’ve gone rogue and have captured the MagNetPets, robotic animals that are precious to Polarity City.…

In the second grade, it was the first time I realized that I had the potential to do great things. My teacher, Mrs. Wazidali, saw something that no other teacher saw. She immediately spoke to my parents and informed them that I should be placed into the magnet program because the current curriculum was not challenging enough for me. I was given the choice to either stay or to be placed in the program. I said yes, and that was when my journey started.…

Tanning industries are known as one of the most polluting industries causing severe environmental pollution through its effluent discharge (Chandra et al., 2011; Verma and Singh, 2012). The tannery effluent especially originating from tanning processes contains a huge quantity of pollutants including organic matter, phenolics, tannins, and chromium and possesses serious health and environmental threats (Chandra et al., 2011; Bhattacharya et al., 2014). Thus, treatment of tannery wastewater is a prerequisite before discharging it into the environment. The remediation of phenol and Cr (VI) from tannery effluent by using consortium of four bacterial isolates. Inoculated consortium culture along with the indigenous microbes of the wastewater resulted…

Since the water splitting reaction using semiconductor electrode reported by Fujishima et al. in 1972 [1], there is increasing interest in the development of metal oxide photocatalysts for environmentally friendly applications such as air purification [2], hydrogen production via water splitting [3] and the removal of organic molecules from water [4]. Recently, photocatalyst thin film has aroused growing interests instead of a powder type of photocatalyst. Photocatalyst film can be deposited on various substrate such as alumina [5], metal foil [6], silicon wafer [7,8], and glass [9,10]. Among these substrates, the glass can be advantageous in various fields owing its high transmittance and chemical stability.…

The reaction was takes place on the surface of a substance, increasing the surface area should increases the quantity of the substance that is available to react, and will thus increase the rate of the reaction as well. The size and shape of the CuMnOx catalyst particles was a transaction between the minimize pore diffusion effects in the catalyst particles.
